There were two phases to fixing Mitch Moreland after it was determined he had broken a small bone in his right wrist last season. One involved a surgical procedure. The second was all up to Moreland. With each passing day, it is looking more and more as if Moreland has shed the bad habits that crept into his approach last year as he got weaker and weaker due to the wrist injury. The results are making a big difference for the Texas Rangers. On Thursday, Moreland stepped in when Michael Young had to leave the game early so he could attend the birth of his third child. Moreland delivered the go-ahead hit in a six-run, eighth-inning rally that gave the Rangers a 10-6 win over the Minnesota Twins. It was the second consecutive game in which the Rangers had at least five runs in an inning, and it was the big-league-leading 24th such inning for the club. Moreland also had the big blow Wednesday, a grand slam to break open a still-close game with the Baltimore Orioles. Since return...

Rangers hope for Napoli's return in September

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas catcher Mike Napoli is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday but it's not going to happen. Napoli, who is on the DL with a strained left quad, still isn't running the bases. Texas manager Ron Washington is hoping to have Napoli available around Sept. 1, which is also when the rosters expand. "We won't write that in stone,"...

Rangers 3B Beltre has second career cycle

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has hit for the cycle. Beltre had a one-out single in the seventh inning Friday night to complete his second career cycle. It is the fourth cycle in the majors this season. Beltre started his night against the Minnesota Twins with a triple in the first inning, his first triple in two years. After a double in the second, he homered in the...

Michael Young has cratered

Michael Young has long been the poster boy of the analytic crowd when it comes to poking holes in empty superstars. His fielding--or lack thereof--has greatly reduced the value of his offensive benefits over the years to put him on that poster. But all fielding aside, the guy has always been a good offensive player for the Rangers. In his eleven seasons, Baseball-reference.com has...

ARLINGTON, Texas Texas Rangers' Adrian Beltre is having a very good week. After hitting three home runs in a game Wednesday, Beltre hit for the cycle in Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins. Rangers' Darvish to skip a start because of leg problem

The Texas Rangers have decided not to take any chances with Yu Darvish's tight right quadriceps. After a staff meeting that included Darvish, manager Ron Washington decided to skip Darvish's scheduled start Thursday and move him back to Tuesday against Tampa to give the quadriceps muscle time to settle down. Darvish has had some issues with the quad over the course of the...

Adrian Beltre has three-homer game, cycle in same week

It wasn’t but two weeks ago that Adrian Beltre was mired in a slump at the plate. Fast forward to this week where he is currently hitting over .500, and you’ll find that his production has changed drastically. Beltre delivered the second three-homer game of his career on Wednesday in his first three at-bats, and followed that performance by hitting for the cycle for the second...

Adrian Beltre has hit three home runs in his first three at-bats against the Baltimore Orioles, including two in the Texas Rangers' nine-run fourth inning. Beltre hit his first homer Wednesday night leading off the second against Tommy Hunter. With that long ball, he became the ninth third baseman in major league history with 10 seasons of at least 20 home runs. He connected...

Hamilton doesn't think Twins threw at his head

Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton could feel the ball whizzing by the back of his neck. Hamilton says, though, that he doesn't think that Minnesota starter Scott Diamond was trying to hit him in the head. Diamond was immediately ejected Thursday night after the lefty's pitch near Hamilton's head in the third inning. Twins catcher Joe Mauer had been hit by a pitch...

Texas Rangers fan does Soulja Boy parody song for Yu Darvish (Video)

As it has been previously noted on this website, I'm not a huge fan of fan-made parody music videos but this one is pretty good. Check out rapper Smosy paying tribute to Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish with this track called, "Do The Yu": (Courtesy of Sweater Punch)

Uggh….Like an Uninvited Guest, Roger Clemens is Back.

Roger Clemens had a storied career. Now, he’s like a cold sore. When he keeps coming back, it’s awfully embarrassing. The 50-year-old former All-Star signed with the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League on Monday. He is expected to start for the minor league team on Saturday at home against Bridgeport. “His fastball was clocked at 87 mph; all of his...

Texas offense continues to pummel foes

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers may be in an offensive slump. They went scoreless after the third inning Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. Of course, that followed a start to the game in which the Rangers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings on their way to a 9-3 victory over the Twins.
