And you thought help wasn't on the way. You thought the Mets didn't have a trick up their sleeve. Au contraire mon frere. The Mets are after an outfielder. A big name outfielder as well.
Well he is a big name. And as you can see from the video evidence I have presented you, he has played some outfield. Listen, Roy Oswalt has only seven less career outfield appearances in professional baseball than Justin Turner, and one more appearance in the major leagues. And only 40 less appearances in the outfield than Jordany Valdespin. Oh, and he can pitch a little too, or so I hear. Bullpen and outfield help on just one salary.
You ain't workin' hard, Sandy. You're workin' smart.

My projected 2013 Mets Roster now takes shape as follows.
C : John Buck
1B: Ike Davis
2B: Daniel Murphy

Oswalt’s Agent Denies Any Interest From Mets, Alderson Still Looking For Arms
Newsday’s Marc Carig reports that Roy Oswalt‘s agent is not aware of any interest from the Mets in his client:
If the Mets indeed are interested in signing veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt, it’s news to his longtime agent, Bob Garber.
“Not sure where the report came from,” Garber said in a text message. “I’m not aware of any interest from the Mets.”
I have a suspicious...
The Plan: Mets Are Going To “Half & Half” It In 2013
The Mets intend to make a second visit soon to watch free-agent reliever Brian Wilson throw, Sandy Alderson told ESPN’s Jim Bowden.
Wilson is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Alderson previously has acknowledged Wilson threw only 20 pitches during the first session for the Mets, on Jan. 12 at UCLA, and that his velocity was substandard at that time.
Sandy also explained his...

Roy Oswalt’s agent, Bob Garber: “I’m not aware of any interest” from the Mets.
I have a suspicious feeling that most Met fans will be relieved to hear this.

Michael Bourn vs. #11 pick: A 100-player sample
The debate rages on whether or not the Mets should forfeit their first-round pick, the #11 selection overall, in order to sign free agent Michael Bourn. Those in favor of the move point out that Bourn would address a major need for the Mets while those opposed think the club is unlikely to contend while Bourn would be good and that the club would be better off continuing its youth...
Report: Alderson thinks Bourn price too steep for Mets
According to the NY Times, Sandy Alderson, the general manager of the Mets, suggested the loss
of a first-round pick would be too steep a price for the team to
consider signing Michael Bourn, the best outfielder left on the
free-agent market.
If they signed Bourn, a speedy 30-year-old
center fielder, the Mets would be forced to give up the 11th overall
pick of the draft as...
The Mets can’t sign Michael Bourn because they were too awesome last year
Well, the Mets being a “good” team is only part of the problem. For an explanation of why the Mets will probably need to surrender their 2013 first-round draft pick if they do, in fact, agree to a contract with Michael Bourn, Ken Rosenthal is the man to turn to (H/T: MetsBlog).
The Mets hold the 11th pick in the draft. But under the new collective-bargaining agreement, only the...

Adam Rubin spoke to Terry Collins who told him he plans to look at both Justin Turner and Zach Lutz in the outfield this Spring.
Turner has not played a game in the outfield in his Major League career and Lutz has never played a game in the outfield in his minor league career.
Sounds good to me… I’m very optimistic…

Mets Gamble $4 million on Marcum
Yesterday the New York Mets agreed to a 1-year contract with former Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum, pending a physical. Today the 31-year-old righty passed his physical and the 1-year/$4 million contract was made official. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, incentives could drive that price tag up to $6 million in 2013.

Turner and Lutz in the Mets Outfield?
The Mets plan to give infielders Justin Turner and Zach Lutz an opportunity at playing time in the outfield during spring training, manager Terry Collins told ESPNNewYork.com Thursday.
That plan could change should the team supplement its current options with an addition via trade or free agency.
Lutz hasn't played in the outfield at any level since becoming a professional...
Rosenthal: Mets-Bourn match looks unlikely
The rumors of the New York Mets interest in free agent Michael Bourn have been escalating in recent days, some going as far as to say the team would seriously consider a backloaded deal if it wouldn’t cost them their first round pick in 2013. As I wrote the other day, I just don’t buy it. We are talking about a 30-year-old free agent outfielder that makes his living with...
