Found May 21, 2013 on Fox Sports Arizona:
Patrick Corbin has been pretty good this year. The Diamondbacks' young lefty is 7-0 -- making him the franchise's first left-hander to start a season with seven straight wins since Randy Johnson in 2000 -- following a dominant 10-strikeout, three-hit, complete-game win over the Rockies on Monday. Corbin also has a ridiculous 1.44 ERA thanks to nine straight starts of six innings or more and two or fewer runs allowed -- which, by the way, makes him the first pitcher in baseball to pull that off since Ubaldo Jimenez did so in 12 straight outings in 2010. So yeah. Pretty good. Todd Helton has been pretty good for his entire career. The longtime Rockies first baseman has a .319 career aveage and is closing in on 2,500 hits in the twilight of his 17-year career. The soon-to-be 40-year-old has been around and seen just about everything -- and gotten hits off of just about everybody -- in baseball while winning a batting title, four Silver Slugger awards, etc. So when Helton says something is the best he's ever seen, it means something. And on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after his 0-for-3, two-strikeout performance against Corbin and his filthy put-away slider, Helton made the following comments to FOX Sports Arizona's Jody Jackson: Helton said Corbin's slider was best he's ever seen. I asked about RJ he said- I'm not going to compare the 2, I have too (cont'd) Jody Jackson (@Jody_Jackson) May 21, 2013Much respect for Randy Johnson. But from a true pitch perspective, yes. Jody Jackson (@Jody_Jackson) May 21, 2013 Of all the praise the 24-year-old Corbin has gotten in this, his first full year in the majors, that might be both the most incredible and the most telling.

Patrick Corbin Is Pitching In Stealth Mode

Patrick Corbin who most casual baseball fans have never heard of is now 7-0 to start the year with a 1.44 ERA, slightly below the league leader Clayton Kershaw. The lefty is 7-0 with 2 no decisions, and the Diamondbacks are 9-0 in games he has started. In his 9 starts, he has allowed 2 runs twice, 1 run four times and 0 runs twice. With all the talk about young pitchers such...

Corbin stellar once again as D-Backs drop Rockies

Coors Field has always been known as hitters park, just don’t tell that that to Patrick Corbin.

Corbin three-hits Rockies as D-backs dominate

DENVER (AP) -- Patrick Corbin tossed a three-hitter for his first complete game and struck out a career-high 10, leading the Diamondbacks to a 5-1 win over the Rockies on Monday night. Corbin (7-0) joined Randy Johnson as the only lefties in team history to begin the season 7-0. He also turned in his club-record ninth straight start in which he's pitched at least six innings...

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Patrick Corbin Demands Your Attention

23-year-old upstate New York native Patrick Corbin has been dominating the National League. Bring up his name and you might get the ‘deer in headlights’ look from your average baseball...The post Arizona Diamondbacks’ Patrick Corbin Demands Your Attention appeared first on Bohemian Baseball.

On the Not Literally Venomous Patrick Corbin

The lowest ERA on the Diamondbacks right now belongs to Matt Reynolds. The lowest ERA on the Diamondbacks belonging to a pitcher who’s thrown more innings than a really long baseball game belongs to Patrick Corbin. Monday night, Corbin took the mound in Coors Field with an ERA of 1.52. He came away with an ERA even lower than that, and at present his ERA is the second-lowest in...

Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 1

Patrick Corbin tossed a three-hitter for his first complete game and struck out a career-high 10, lifting the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. Corbin (7-0) joined Randy Johnson as the only lefties in team history to begin the season 7-0. He also turned in his club-record ninth straight start where he's pitched at least six innings...

Diamondbacks-Rockies Preview

Patrick Corbin may not receive the type of publicity normally reserved for an unbeaten starter with his success, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are well aware of how spectacular he's pitched. Arizona has won each of Corbin's eight starts this season, and it will look to end the host Colorado Rockies' three-game winning streak Monday night. Corbin (6-0, 1.52 ERA) has tossed...

King of the Hill - Patrick Corbin

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in 1st place in the NL West. One of the major contributors this season has been 23 year old starting left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin. In all 9 of his starts, he's gone at least 6 innings and has not allowed more than 2 runs in any of them. That's 9 straight quality starts to begin the season. Stats: 7-0, 9 GS, 62.1 IP, 51 K, 1.44 ERA, 0...

Patrick Corbin IS All That, Ks 10 In D-Backs Win

Coors Field is not exactly a pitcher’s paradise, unless you’re Patrick Corbin. Corbin struck out 10 batters, allowing one run, and walked one in a complete-game victory over the Colorado Rockies. Corbin needed only 97 pitches for the win and 74 of those were strikes. He lowered his ERA to 1.44  and improved his record to 7-0  on the season an joins Randy Johnson as the only...

Patrick Corbin Looks For His Seventh Win

The Arizona Diamondbacks have become known for their under-the-radar pitching staff these last few years. Whether it was Ian Kennedy’s break-out 2011 season, Wade Miley’s ROY-runner up 2012 season, or Patrick Corbin’s 6-0 start this season (hopefully that becomes 7-0 after tonight’s game). They don’t all have the skills of Justin Verlander, or the super-star status of players...

Patrick Corbin shuts down Colorado Rockies in opener, Garland struggles again

Jon Garland might be the odd man out if he doesn't figure it out soon.Jim Tracy would have loved his post game press conference on Monday night if he was still with the Colorado Rockies. It was the perfect opportunity for him to use a classic cliche line that he seemed to pull out far too often in his tenure with the Rockies."Sometimes you've gotta tip your cap to the...

Fantasy Stock Watch: Edwin Jackson, Patrick Corbin

Bullish: Edwin JacksonEdwin Jackson is currently sporting a 1-6 record with a 5.76 ERA. Those aren’t numbers that are useful in fantasy baseball. Chances are Edwin was cut or can be had for a very small price in your fantasy league. I’ve never been a huge Jackson fan but he is definitely not as bad as he looks right now and could help your team going forward. He has been allowing...

D-Backs fall to Rockies in extras

Gibson’s club battled back, but lost to the Rockies in the 10th inning. One night after getting a dominating performance from Patrick Corbin, the Arizona Diamondbacks staged a late comeback, but were defeated by the Colorado Rockies in extra innings, 5-4. In what has become too common this season, Ian Kennedy didn’t pitch real well, but he gave Arizona a chance to earn a victory...

The NL’s Top 5 Starting Pitchers

Recently I was watching Baseball Tonight, and the host tasked the analysts with listing the top five starters in the National League.  First up was Doug Glanville, whose list included Patrick Corbin, Shelby Miller, and Matt Harvey, the most tenured of which (Corbin) has thrown only 160.1 innings in the majors.  Miller hasn’t even made ten career starts.  None of these guys have...
