Early last week, 38 year old reliever, Jason Isringhausen, expressed his desire to remain a Met for the remainder of the 2011 season to New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, stating:

I have two places in my heart, St. Louis, because I’m from there, and New York, because this is where I started. Those are my two favorite spots, and I don’t think I’m going back to St. Louis anytime soon. And I love it here.

I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone next year, but for the next year, I want to remain a Met. I signed here to be a Met, and that’s how I want to finish the season.”

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, he wish may come true:

Once a top pitching prospect for the Mets organization as part of the famous trio dubbed ‘Generation-K’ in the early ’90s, Izzy has become an intricate piece to the Mets pen in 2011.  A day after notching his first save in three years, Isringhausen recorded two scoreless innings during Wednesday nights contest against his former club (St. Louis Cardinals) — which including three straight strike outs against Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, and Lance Berkman — lowering his season ERA to an impressive 2.76 in the process:

While I am sure his name will still circulate as a possible trade candidate,  it has been extremely enjoyable to watch Izzy pitch, effectively, while doning the blue and orange this season.  In some weird way, I remember my youth every time he toes the rubber.

Maybe that’s because I continually announce to my son about his stature as a Mets prospect “when I was younger” when he does…
