PLAYERS: Jason Heyward
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
No word yet on Heyward’s condition Atlanta Braves right fielder Jason Heyward was hit in the face with a pitch by New York Mets starter Jonathan Niese in Wednesday afternoon’s game. The left-handed Niese came up and in with a fastball as the left-handed Heyward leaned into the plate.  Heyward was able to turn away from the pitch, but it caught him on the right side of the jaw. Heyward went down at the plate for a couple of minutes as stunned players stood and watched.  Fortunately, Heyward was able to get up under his own power as Braves trainer Joe Porter led him to the dugout.  Heyward will be having x-rays at the stadium, no word yet on their results. Jordan Schafer came into the game to run for Heyward and scored the Braves’ first run.  He stayed in the game to take Heyward’s position in right field. Heyward has been on fire since being inserted into lead-off spot in the batting order.  This would be a huge blow to the Braves if Heyward is out for an extended period. The post He...

The injury is a very significant one for the Braves’ first round pick from the 2007 MLB Draft, as it will likely be 4-6 weeks before...

Braves' Heyward hit in face by pitch, leaves Mets game

The sixth inning of the Braves-Mets game on Wednesday offered up a scary moment, as Atlanta outfielder Jason Heyward was hit near the head with a 90-mile-per-hour fastball from Jonathan Niese. Heyward, who entered the game as one of the most productive second-half hitters in baseball, took the 1-2 pitch up near the right side of his jaw -- the video appears to show it nicked his...

They have already had 6 season ending surgeries this season, and despite it all, they have MLB's best...

WATCH: Atlanta's Jason Heyward Suffers Fractured Jaw After Getting Hit in the Face With Pitch

This is exactly why I was not real interested in playing baseball as a kid (that and I sucked). Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward was hit in the face with pitch during today's game against the New York Mets. If it sounds like it hurts, well--it does. The poor man was spitting blood when he was helped off the field. He was taken to the hospital for further examination...

Chopcast: Heyward injury puts damper on Braves' recent run

ATLANTA -- The Braves have solidified their place on the short list of World Series contenders in 2013, but no other team on that list has encountered more misfortune in the process. As Jason Heyward's fractured jaw illustrated once more on Wednesday afternoon, Atlanta's 77-49 record has not come without a price. Sure, the Boston Red Sox have played without starter Clay...

Remember a few hours ago when we brought you the news that Jason Heyward was hit in the face by a pitch from Jonathon Niese of the New York Mets? Max Stassi, Jason Heyward both take pitches to face in same day (Video)

Houston Astros catcher Max Stassi had an incredibly memorable first week in the Major Leagues, and we don’t neccesarily mean that in a good way. Sure, the 22-year-old recorded his first MLB hit and picked up his first big league RBI, but his accomplishments came at a steep price. On Tuesday, Stassi committed an embarrassing […]

Heyward,Young & Thomas on the defense

courtesy photo Paul Sancya/AP I can’t let good defense go unnoticed as Heyward, Thomas & Young made some  tremendous catches on Monday night for their respective teams.  None of them are part of a law firm nor in contentions of getting a Gold Glove this year but all three made another night of Major League Baseball worth watching. Here is Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward...

Beachy to see Dr. Andrews to have elbow examined

One day after Jason Heyward was lost for 4-6 weeks with a fractured jaw, the Braves released another potentially tough bit of news as Brandon Beachy will see Dr. James Andrews to have his surgically repaired elbow examined. Beachy has seen a dip in velocity since coming back from Tommy John surgery, with his fastball going from 91.2 mph in his first game back July 29 -- which is...

Three Cuts: Braves fall to Cards to open tough stretch

With just seven games remaining against teams with records of .500 or better, the consensus has been the Braves had the easiest remaining schedule of any contender. But now the National League East leaders are in the midst of those games vs. winning teams -- which come in consecutive fashion -- and it got off to a rough start as they fell to the Cardinals for the first time this...
