The Redlegs (30-24) were back home after an off-day on Monday to take on the second place Pirates (28-26). Homer Bailey took the ball matched up against righty A.J. Burnett, who in his last time out against the Reds pitched pretty well. It was a game that saw the teams offense come out in the first inning and score two runs early on a Votto single and a Bruce sacrifice fly. The offense mustered two runs later in the game, but it was not enough as the Pirates defeated the Redlegs 8-4.
Let's take a look at the good, the bad, and the notables from Tuesday nights affair.
- Rookie Zack Cozart had a nice day at the plate recording three hits in his five plate appearances. Cozart struck out twice and scored two of the four runs.
- Does Joey Votto ever have a bad day at the plate? He sure didn't in tonights game as he was 2-for-4 in the game extending his hit streak to eleven games. Votto also added two RBI.
- Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier each added an RBI on a sa...

The Reds lost the first game of the three-game series to the Pirates last night, 8-4.
Homer Bailey started for the Reds, so it looked like it was going to be all him. After all, before last night, Bailey had never suffered a loss at the hands of the Pirates in 9 starts and he was rocking a 1.79 ERA. That’s why they play the game, though. Last night he worked just 3.0 innings,...
Early tallies are out for the National League All-Star voting, and it shouldn’t be any surprise that Joey Votto is at the top of the … [visit site to read more]
Prior to his NL MVP season in 2010, there were many baseball fans who had never heard of Joey Votto. The Reds first baseman is one of the best hitters in the National League, and he’s off to a hot start once again this year even after signing a whopping 10-year, $225 million extension. In addition to a .315 career batting average, Votto’s career has also been highlighted by some...
The Reds dropped the series opener to the Pirates in spectacular form, 8-4. Homer Bailey, who previously owned the Pirates, got totally lit up.
Tonight Johnny Cueto (5-3, 2.54 ERA) goes out for revenge. He’s facing off against Brad Lincoln (3-0, 1.04 ERA). Cueto’s been good and Cueto’s been bad the last few starts, but we really need good Cueto tonight...
Homer Bailey really isn't a very good pitcher, but he's always been the sort of pitcher that gives the Pirates fits. He throws hard and when he mixes that with his slider, the Pirates generally look helpless against him, even if that doesn't happen against most other teams. Coming into tonight, he was 6-0 against the Pirates with a 1.79 ERA and a 2.65 K/BB ratio. The...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Clint Barmes had three hits and drove in three runs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates extended their home-run tear by hitting three more for an 8-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.
Neil Walker hit a two-run homer, and Casey McGehee and Alex Presley had solo shots, giving the Pirates seven homers in their last two games.
A.J. Burnett (5-2) won his...
Take a look at these guys if you need a quick spot start.
Homer Bailey – The Reds kept waiting on Bailey to get it together and it looks like he finally has. Between all the hype – and looking like Christian Bale – Bailey had a tough time adjusting to life in the majors, but after a typical up and down start he’s settled in and only given up 6 runs combined in his last 3...
As Pittsburgh's A.J. Burnett continued his recent mastery last week against the Cincinnati Reds, Homer Bailey managed to baffle the Pirates yet again.
With Burnett and Bailey each riding three-start winning streaks, runs could be at a premium Tuesday night as Pittsburgh tries for a fifth consecutive road victory over NL Central-leading Cincinnati in the opener of a three-game...
Here’s Jay Bruce, in the casual if futile attempt to catch the home run that Alex Presley of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit over the wall last night. This seems like a pretty unfortunate situation, but maybe if we look at it from a different perspective…

The Pirates finally figured out how to hit Homer Bailey and continued to play great baseball on Tuesday night. Your Bucs have now won 8 out of their last 10 – and by that measure, they’re the hottest team in the NL.
Just like both their wins in Milwaukee, the Pirates played poorly in the first inning. Andrew McCutchen was thrown out trying to move up on a ball in the dirt, and...
The Pirates' figured out one of their long-time Cincinnati nemeses last night when they tagged Homer Bailey for a bunch of runs, tonight they try to get their second win against Johnny Cueto in eight days. They drew some walks off of Cueto last Wednesday, taking four in his seven innings, and eeked out a 2-1 win behind AJ Burnett. Instead of Burnett tonight, the Bucs send Brad...
