Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The GM’s creative juggling ahead

Michael Young was the 2nd domino to fall for the Philadelphia Phillies.  How will the remaining dollars be spent by Rube Amaro? TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: My articles are designed to represent a baseball-man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the stick-glove-or-power requirements, the...

Adding a corner outfielder will come at expense of Ruf or Brown for Phillies

The Phillies added a couple of nice pieces in two separate trades this past week, but questions still remain and there is still work left to do. In shoring up their need for a centerfielder with former Minnesota Twin Ben Revere, the Phillies effectively dealt with one of the most glaring holes on the team. They also added former All Star Michael Young to the mix to play third base...

Ben Revere came to Philadelphia today to meet the Phillies for the first time and got a few experiences around the City of Brotherly Love and on the high seas to show for it. Listening to Revere on 97.5 the Fanatic with Mike Missanelli and watching him on Comcast Sportsnet,...

Phillies Rumors: Philly Seeks Low-Risk Starter

The Philadelphia Phillies are seeking a low-risk, high-reward pitcher to fill out the back-end of their starting rotation, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We'll probably look to add a low-risk, high-reward type of guy, or somebody's who's come back from an injury, or someone like that who can battle for that fifth spot," general...

Revere gets warm welcome in Philadelphia

While Philadelphia Phillies fans may have been waiting with bated breath for Josh Hamilton or B.J. Upton, the center fielder for the 2013 season will instead be a guy few of them heard of before this month. Even so, it didn't take them long to like Ben Revere, and vice versa. On the final day of the winter meetings, the Phils made a trade with the Minnesota Twins that netted...

Throughout the off-season, we’ll be checking in with various players from around the Phillies organization to see how they’re staying in shape and how they’re keeping busy during the colder months. To kick things off, righty pitching prospect David Buchanan, the Phils’ 7th round draft selection in 2010, took some time to answer questions for the PhilliesNation. Buchanan...

The Phillies Don't Have To Get Hamilton, But They Should Try

The Phillies played most of the second half with Dom Brown and John Mayberry Jr. as their only full time outfielders, and went 13 games over .500 in that half. They ran out Nate Schierholtz, Laynce Nix, Juan Pierre, and some truly bad options in the third spot, and continued...

Rosenthal: All signs point to Mets trading Dickey

For some Mets fans,  happy hour can’t get here soon enough this afternoon as Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal is the latest to tweet about what appears to be an almost inevitable breakup between the New York Mets and Cy Young award winner R.A. Angels Sign Hamilton To Five-Year Deal

The Phillies reportedly offered Josh Hamilton a three-year contract worth upwards of $80 million, but their interest in the former MVP was gauged as lukewarm by various sources. They may have pursued him further, if push came to shove, but it never really seemed like the Phils were in on him or hellbent on signing him. Well, it’s all moot, as Ken Rosenthal has reported that Hamilton...
