This is the second time a pitcher in the MLB has taken a line drive off the head in the past week, and it never gets any less scary. Tonight during the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs night game, Astros pitcher Mickey Storey took a Dave Sappelt comebacker directly off of his head, forcing him to leave the game in eighth inning. Last week A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy has a similar incident, and is still feeling the after effects (to put it lightly). He needed surgery to fix an epidural hemorrhage, skull fracture and brain bruise. Luckily for Storey, it appears that Sappelt’s liner hit Storey’s right shoulder before hitting him on the right side of his neck/head. Storey hit the ground for several minutes before walking into the Astros dugout mostly on his own accord. Your browser does not support iframes. H/T Washington Post Article found on: Cosby Sweaters

Video: Mickey Storey takes a line drive to the head

Scary moment in the Houston Astros game against the Cubs, as reliever Mickey Storey too lined shot off the side of his head on Wednesday night. This happened just days after Oakland A’s reliever had to have surgery on his skull because it was fractured by a comebacker. Storey was forced to leave the game [...]

Astros' Storey hit in face but not seriously injured

The Houston Astros appear to have survived the scariest moment of a bad season when Mickey Storey was hit in the face with a comebacker and dropped to his knees. The injury brought back visions of Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy, who suffered a skull fracture when he was hit with a liner last week. Storey was more fortunate in absorbing the ball from Dave Sappelt of the Cubs...

DeFrancesco believes he's right man for Astros

As he attempts to prove he's a worthy candidate for the Houston Astros' managerial vacancy, interim manager Tony DeFrancesco is attempting to capitalize on one of life's basic truths: Kids like new, shiny toys. DeFrancesco has a friend in the electronics business, and the friend gave him a selection of $200 headphones to give to the player of the game after every Astros...

Astros 1, Cubs 0

Jimmy Paredes singled and scored an unearned run in the third inning and the Houston Astros beat the Chicago Cubs 1-0 on Tuesday night. It was an otherwise tough night for the second baseman, who committed three errors. Paredes has started the last three games at second base with All-Star Jose Altuve out with an abdominal strain. Houston starter Jordan Lyles (4-11) scattered two...

Q&A: Delino DeShields, Jr., Stealing 101

Delino DeShields, Jr. was clearly overshadowed this season. The 20-year-old Houston Astros prospect stole 101 bases, but thanks to Billy Hamilton‘s record-setting 155, his own thievery went largely unnoticed. Despite the relative lack of attention, DeShields may ultimately prove to be the better player. Taken eighth overall in the 2010 draft, the right-handed-hitting second baseman...
