As a team, the Houston Astros only scored 17 runs through the first 7 games. They also only had 5 doubles and 2 home runs. They erupted Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners with 16 runs on 22 hits, 8 of which were extra base hits.Astros 16 Mariners 9The Astros got a nice start from Erik Bedard who threw 4 innings allowing just 1 hit and 2 walks before leaving with an undisclosed injury.It's a good thing he left with a 13-0 lead because Paul Clemens came in to relieve him and he gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 4 innings and Hector Ambriz gave up 3 hits and 4 runs in the 9th.Jose Altuve went 4-6 with a double, home run, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.Chris Carter went 4-6 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI.Carlos Pena went 2-4 with 2 walks, a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.J.D. Martinez went 2-6 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.Marwin Gonzalez went 3-3 with 2 walks, a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.Brandon Maurer did started this game for the Mariners but did not even make it through the 1st inning. He lasted just 2/3 of an inning, allowing 7 hits, a walk and 6 earned runs.Kameron Loe relieved Maurer and was not much better as he went 2 1/3 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 walk, and 5 earned runs.Charlie Furbush, Lucas Luetge and Oliver Perez pitched the last 6 innings and combined to give up 9 hits, 4 walks, and 5 earned runs.The Mariners relievers gave up a combined 5 home runs.Jason Bay and Raul Ibanez both entered the game in the late innings and went a combined 4-4 with 2 walks, 2 home runs, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI.Mike Morse added a solo home run, his 6th of the year.Phillies 8 Mets 3The Phillies offense flexed some muscle against Dillon Gee as they blasted 3 home runs in the 3rd inning. Ryan Howard, Michael Young and John Mayberry Jr. all went deep off Gee, who lasted just 3 innings as he allowed 10 hits and 7 runs.After the 3rd inning Cliff Lee was handed a 7-0 lead which was more than enough. Lee went 8 2/3 innings as he allowed 8 hits and 2 earned runs and struck out 6.Michael Young finished 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI and he fell just a double short of the cycle.The Mets continue to get instant offense from John Buck as he blasted a 2-run home run off Lee.Cardinals 5 Reds 1Lance Lynn picked up his first win of the season as he struck out 10 batters through 6 innings. He allowed just 4 hits and 1 run.The Cards were trailing in this game 1-0 headed to the 6th inning but took the lead off of Matt Adams pinch hit 2-run home run. They added another run in the inning off an Alan Craig ground out and another run on a Carlos Beltran single.Bronson Arroyo was brillinint through 5 shutout innings but fell apart in the 6th. He finished the night with 6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER and the loss.Shin-Soo Choo had 2 of the Reds 5 singles. The team struck out 14 times.Royals 7 Twins 4The Royals scored 5 runs in the 1st inning and added a run in both the 2nd and 3rd before their bats went cold the rest of the game. Luckily those 7 runs were enough.Alex Gordon, Alcides Escobar, and Billy Butler combined to go 7-12 at the top of the Royals lineup with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI.Every Royals player had at least 1 hit and either an RBI or run scored except for the #9 hitter Chris Getz. Jeremy Guthrie picked up his 2nd win as he went 6 2/3 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 runs and 2 strike outs. He did allow 3 solo home runs.  He was our Sweet Stream of the Day!Greg Holland was given the chance again to close out the game, which he did but he made it very interesting. He walked 2 and gave up a single which loaded the bases for Joe Mauer but struck him out to end the game. Joe Mauer, Josh Willingham, and Eduardo Escobar hit those solo jacks.Mike Pelfrey got rocked as he lasted just 2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 6 runs. Cubs 6 Brewers 3The Brewers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning after scoring a run on a Jean Segura double, Norichika Aoki RBI ground out and a Ryan Braun RBI infield single.Unfortunately the team only had 4 more hits the rest of the game.After being shut out through the 1st 4 innings, the Cubs put up 6 runs in the last 4.David DeJesus went 3-5 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIAnthony Rizzo went 1-2 with 2 walks and a 2-run double.Travis Wood settled down after the 2nd inning and finished the game going 6 1/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 walks and 2 earned runs while striking out 6.Carlos Marmol picked up the win as he pitched the 8th and Kyuji Fujikawa picked up the save.Rangers 6 Rays 1Nick Tepesch made his major league debut and he was excellent. He got the win as he went 7 1/3 innings, allowing just 4 hits, walking 3, 1 earned run and struck out 5.Lance Berkman went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Leonys Martin went 2-3 with 3 runs scored.Desmond Jennings appeared to be the only Ray who could get good wood on a Tepesch pitch as he ripped 2 doubles off of him, and the rest of the lineup had a total of 2 hits.Fausto Carmona Roberto Hernandez had another rough outing as he falls to 0-2 as he gave up 8 hits, 2 walks and 6 runs (5 earned) in 6 2/3 innings.Braves 3 Marlins 2The Braves continue to get excellent starting pitching as Kris Medlen shut down the weak Marlins lineup as he went 7 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks and 1 run (0 earned).Andrelton Simmons went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and Evan Gattis went 2-4 with a double and a 2-run homer.Wade LeBlanc allowed only 2 runs over 6 innings but suffered the loss.Placido Polanco had 2 of the Marlins 4 hits.Nationals 8 White Sox 7Gio Gonzalez allowed 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 7 but the bullpen allowed 6 runs in the last 4 innings.Luckily the Nationals offense picked up the pitching. Jayson Werth hit a 2-run home run and also added an RBI single.  Adam LaRoche hit 2 home runs and drove in 3. Denard Span went 2-3 with a walk, a double and 2 runs scored.Jake Peavy struggled during his 5 1/3 innings pitched as he allowed 9 hits (3 home runs) and 6 earned runs.The White Sox got great production out of their 1-4 hitters as Alejandro De Aza, Jeff Keppinger, Alex Rios and Paul Konerko went a combined 9-16, 3 walks, 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 7 runs scored, and 6 RBI.Yankees 14 Indians 1The Yankees dominated this game from the get-go.  The offense hit 6 doubles and 5 home runs.Andy Pettitte pitched great again as he improves to 2-0. He went 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, and 1 run while striking out 4.Brett Gardner went 4-5 with a walk, 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.Robinson Cano went 4-6 with 2 doubles, a home run, 2 runs scored and 5 RBI.Lyle Overbay went 3-5, a double, a home run, and 3 runs scored.Francisco Cervelli went 2-4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and an RBIKevin Youkilis and Brennan Boesch each hit a 2-run homer.Carlos Carrasco was awful in this one as he went 3 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, 2 home runs and 7 earned runs. Out of the bullpen Brett Myers was just as bad. Myers pitched the last 5 1/3 innings allowing 11 hits, 3 home runs and 7 earned runs.Padres 9 Dodgers 3Clayton Richard started for the Padres but did not factor in the win as he went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs. Andrew Cashner got the win in relief.Will Venable went 2-3 with 2 walks, a triple, a home run, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.Josh Beckett did not factor in the loss as he went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs.The Dodgers bullpen was terrible as they gave up 6 runs in just 3 innings.Juan Uribe hit a 2-run homer for the Dodgers.Tigers 7 Blue Jays 3Anibal Sanchez improves to 2-0 as he went 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 8.Miguel Cabrera had a monster game as he went 3-4 with 3 runs, and 4 RBI. He hit a missile of a 3-run homer.Torii Hunter went 3-5 with a run scored and Prince Fielder went 2-3 with 2 walks and an RBI. Brandon Morrow got rocked and lasted only 3 innings giving up 9 hits, 2 walks and 5 runs.Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera went a combined 4-8 with a run and 2 RBI at the top of the Blue Jays lineup.Pirates 6 Diamondbacks 5After giving up 4 runs in the 1st inning, James McDonald bounced back nicely and lasted 5  innings to earn his first win of the season. Jason Grilli closed out the 9th inning, picking up his 3rd save.Starling Marte went 2-5 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.Neil Walker went 1-5 with a run scored and 2 RBI.Garrett Jones went 3-5 with 2 RBI.Travis Snider went 2-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored.Brandon McCarthy suffered the loss as he gave up 10 hits and 6 runs (4 earned) through 6 2/3 innings.Miguel Montero had a 2-run double and Jason Kubel hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning but the team only scored 1 more run in the game, which was a sac fly off the bat of Montero in the 7th.Giants 9 Rockies 6Tim Lincecum had another unimpressive start as he went 6 innings as he gave up 4 hits, 4 walks, 6 earned runs and struck out 7. He did not factor in the win. Sergio Romo picked up his 5th save.Angel Pagan went 3-5 with 2 runs, and an RBI.Marco Scutaro went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI.Hunter Pence went 2-5 with 2 RBI.Brandon Crawford hit a 3-run homer and scored 2 runs.The Rockies bullpen threw 3 innings and gave up 9 hits and 6 runs, helping the Rockies blow a 6-2 lead.Troy Tulowitzki hit a solo home run and scored 2 runs.Dexter Fowler and Josh Rutledge each had 2 RBI.Athletics 9 Angels 5Despite only getting 3 1/3 innings from their starting pitcher, the Athletics were able to beat the Angels.Jarrod Parker did not have his best stuff as he lasted just 3 1/3 innings giving up 9 hits, 3 walks and 2 runs.The bullpen pitched well for the Athletics as they went 5 2/3 innings giving up just 4 hits, 3 runs (1 earned) and striking out 5.Coco Crisp continues to hit the ball well as he went 2-5, hitting his 4th home run of the year and scored 2 runs.Brandon Moss had a 2-run single in the 1st and added a 2-run homer in the 7th.John Jaso hit a pinch hit go ahead 3-run homer in the 7th.C.J. Wilson gave up 4 runs through the first 2 innings but settled down nicely the rest of the way.  He went 6 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 walks and 4 runs while striking out 7. He was in line for the win until the bullpen gave up 5 runs in the 7th.Mike Trout went 2-4 with a walk, a triple and a run scored.Mark Trumbo went 2-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.Howard Kendrick went 3-4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base.
