I wrote about the position players yesterday; Adam Jones is clearly playing over his head (we don't know by how much, but I'd wager that he doesn't end the year with 50 home runs), but otherwise things seem relatively reasonable overall. There will be some drop-off there, but maybe not a huge amount. It's on the pitching side where I think more people are holding their breath. After years and years (and years) of poor pitching, the O's staff has done some work this year. Their 3.44 ERA is probably unsustainable, but the 4.01 FIP and 3.97 xFIP are both better than average as well (if only by a little). The starting staff has been pretty average across the board overall:

Jones Powers The Orioles to Victory; They Do the Amazing Again...
Well, it’s safe to assume that we are seeing the best of Adam Jones these days. At this point, do the Orioles consider extending him now? Will it get to the point where fans are asking to “pay the man?”I think Jones has now taken his game to another level. Last night showed it.Anyhow, last night, Adam Jones’ solo shot in the 15th inning broke a 3-3 tie and sent the Baltimore...
Adam Jones reaching stardom
Adam Jones has always been a nice player for the Baltimore Orioles. In his first four full seasons with the Orioles, you could count on Jones batting somewhere in the upper .270s and have an OPS in the high 700s. He played solid defense that hinted that he could be better in center. He stole a few bases. He was a good solid player. He has never been a star. In his fifth season with...
Orioles Sweep Royals; Jones and Hardy Help Out Again, Matusz Wins
We are almost at the quarter-pole of the 2012 season, and the Orioles – yes – are still rolling. This afternoon, the Orioles won their third game in a row, and swept the Royals, defeating them, 5-3, in amazing fashion. They are now an astounding 25-14 so far this season and they have the best record in baseball. Once again, the Orioles found themselves in a hole; however, they...
Royals blow late lead, lose to Orioles 4-3 in 15th
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Adam Jones homered with one out in the 15th inning, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.
Jones was hitless in six at-bats before connecting for his team-leading 12th home run -- nine of them tying the game or giving the Orioles a lead. Jones sent a 2-2 pitch from Nate Adcock (0-1), the fifth Kansas...
Is Adam Jones Pulling a Matt Kemp?
On Tuesday, Adam Jones took a 1-0 fastball from CC Sabathia in the second inning and launched it out to left field. On Wednesday, in the 15th inning, he destroyed a curveball from Nate Adcock, breaking a 3-3 tie and giving the Orioles a go-ahead run that led to their extra inning win. Yesterday, the victim was Luke Hochevar, whose 4th inning slider didn’t break far enough out...
Orioles-Royals Preview
(AP) -- Adam Jones seems to do his best work as a one-man wrecking crew, and that's fine with the Baltimore Orioles.
Jones and the Orioles seek to extend their longest road winning streak in more than 12 years Thursday when they wrap up a two-game series at Kansas City against the Royals.
Jones' 12 homers are good for a third-place tie in the AL, but still far behind the...

Orioles 5, Royals 3
Adam Jones hit a two-run homer, J.J. Hardy also drove in a pair of runs and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Thursday for their seventh straight road win.
The Orioles also improved to 12-1 when Jones goes deep, including a victory over the Royals the previous night, when his homer in the 15th inning decided the game.
Jones has homered 13 times this year...
Jones, Hardy power Orioles to win over Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- It wasn't the two-run single by J.J. Hardy in the seventh inning that caused the most angst for Royals reliever Aaron Crow, even though they wound up being the deciding runs.
It was the two walks that he issued before Hardy stepped to the plate.
They loaded the bases for the Orioles' shortstop, whose single snapped a tie and allowed Baltimore to...
Orioles 5, Yankees 2
BALTIMORE -- Adam Jones homered and J.J. Hardy drove in two runs to support another strong start from Wei-Yin Chin as the Baltimore Orioles scored a 5-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The victory before 24.055 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards gave Baltimore (23-14) a split of the two-game series with New York (20-16) and its first win over the Yankees at home...
Exciting O’s keep on rolling with comeback and extra-inning wins
Ok seriously who are these guys and what have they done with our Orioles from the past 14 years?
So far to date this team has showed us they are true competitors by hanging around late in games and despite not always winning they still manage to make some noise late and at least show us they are giving it all they have.
But back-to-back come from behind wins in the 7th inning or...
Sitting Atop the AL East
When you look at the standings in the American League East there is a surprising team on the top of the list, the Baltimore Orioles. Currently sitting at 25-14, the Orioles are a half a game above the Tampa Bay Rays and sit in the top spot in the Al East. We’re only a month and a half into the 2012 MLB season, but the Orioles are showing that they can actually compete in the toughest...
Chen, Hardy and Jones help Orioles defeat Yankees; Earn series split
In the offseason, I questioned a lot of Dan Duquette’s moves – especially Wei-Yin Chen. Honestly, it was to be determined what Chen brought to the table with the Orioles and fans were intrigued what he could do in the majors, most notably against the beasts of the American League East.
So far, Chen is passing the test. In fact, he may be singularly well the best pickup that...
