Last time

The Red Sox were swept by the A's in early July. The A's hit 4 homers in the series and they were all by former Red Sox (Moss, Reddick, Crisp). I don't think you want to know any more.

This time

Laser Show: Dustin Pedroia

Pedey is due for a big series, not that it will make a difference, because the pitching staff will find a way to screw it up.
Pitch Around: Josh Reddick
Josh Reddick makes the trade for Andrew Bailey look worse for the Red Sox with every passing day. Not only that, Reddick has hit 2 homers and driven in 5 against the Sox this season. It's the equivalent of kicking Ben, or Larry, in the balls.

Don't Fall Behind: Brett Anderson

Since making his season debut almost 2 weeks ago, Anderson has been shutting the opposition down. Anderson has only given up 1 run on 6 hits in 14 innings of work. He can rack up a good amount of strikeouts and get ahead of batters very quickly. The Sox are going to have a lot of trouble with him.

How we see it goin' down

The Sox are just...not good, and the A's have been rolling since sweeping the Sox in the 4th of July series. This will not work out well for the Sox and we are likely looking at another sweep. Does anybody watch them anymore?

Dustin Pedroia Explains Role in Drama-Filled Season, Says He Wants to Finish Career With Red Sox

It's been a trying season for all of the Red Sox, including Dustin Pedroia. The Sox second baseman has been challenged by fans and media alike this season, in a way that he hasn't been through his entire career. He's been adored by fans -- and the media, too even -- for the way he's played the game since arriving in Boston. However, a couple of questionable decisions...

James Loney Is Solid First Baseman But 'Jury Still Out' on Future With Red Sox (Video)

James Loney hasn't even been in a Red Sox uniform for a week, so far, and already his future with the club is being put into perspective. The former Dodgers first baseman was at one time a high-level prospect. Since coming to the big leagues, though, he's turned into a decent offensive player with the gold glove skills at first base. NESN's Tom Caron chatted about Loney...

Pedroia finds way to winner's circle

A 4-year-old chestnut filly named Pedroia won the third race at Suffolk Downs in the Boston suburbs on Wednesday, capturing the victory by a margin 9-3/4 lengths under the guidance of jockey Hector Ramos. The horse, trained by Arthur Duffy, Jr., is named after Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, but he has no affiliation with it. Perhaps it's no surprise that the...

Red Sox Option Zach Stewart After Bad Outing, Officially Recall Daniel Bard to Rejoin Club

For the time being, Zach Stewart's stint with the Red Sox is one and done. Less than 24 hours after surrendering nine earned runs and 10 hits in Wednesday's 10-3 loss to the Angels, Stewart was sent back down to Triple-A. It was an atrocious start for Stewart, who allowed more runs than any pitcher in his Red Sox debut since 1903. The move also paved the way for Boston to...

David Ortiz's Injury, Alfredo Aceves' Role, Daniel Bard's Return Among Top 10 Red Sox Storylines of Final Month (Photos)

After hanging in mediocrity for much of the season, the Red Sox have plummeted down the American League standings. For a city that's used to playoff baseball and intense, meaningful games down the stretch, it's a disappointing time. However, don't turn off the TV, shut off the radio or close the laptop just yet. There's still plenty to watch for in the final month...

James Loney Hitting Cleanup as Red Sox Look to Take Series Finale in Los Angeles

The Red Sox had yet another rough go of it in Wednesday's 10-3 loss to the Angels, but their hoping that Jon Lester (8-10, 4.98) can help turn the tide with his trip to the hill on Thursday night. James Loney, taking part in just his fourth game in a Red Sox uniform, will be getting the start at first base and batting cleanup in the Boston order. Cody Ross should provide some...

Red Sox Need to 'Reach Deep' to Play Spoiler After Getting Swept by Angels Once Again

Editor's note: NESN.com is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine's words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. Whether it was in Boston or Anaheim, the Angels had their way. Each time they faced off over the past two weeks, the Red Sox failed to capitalize on their miscues and deliver the knockout...

Red Sox' High-Profile Shake-Up Evokes Many Emotions, But Necessary to Improve Culture

It's been nearly a week since The Break Up. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington finally made the phone call that ended a relationship that seemed so promising once upon a time. Cherington said good bye to players we had once fallen in love with, players who were supposed to be the perfect marriage of talent to create "The Best Team Ever." As we know, not all relationships...

Absurd Outburst of Scoring From Former Red Sox Players Enters Stranger-Than-Fiction Territory (Video)

If you once played for the Boston Red Sox and now play for the Oakland A's, chances are that you've had a big game against the Sox at some point this year. Just about everyone on the A's had a big game on Friday night, however, thanks to a nine-run seventh inning in which Oakland sent 12 hitters to the plate and showed no mercy on Boston pitching. Josh Reddick hit a grand...

GIFcap: Alfredo Aceves Expresses That He’s Not A Big Fan Of Bobby Valentine

So if you hadn’t heard yet, Alfredo Aceves had a bit of a blowup in the dugout today, making worse what was already a bad situation for him. It was already a controversial week for Red Sox right-hander Alfredo Aceves when another drama ensued during Saturday night’s game against the Athletics. In the bottom of

A smaller 18th green at TPC Boston

The latest tweak by Gil Hanse at the TPC Boston was to the 18th green, which has proven to be pivotal in recent years. It's where Chris Stroud hit a 3-iron to 3 feet last year for eagle to narrowly advance to the next round in the FedEx Cup playoffs, and where Ernie Els and Geoff Ogilvy both got up-and-down from behind the green for birdie to advance. This year, the par-5 closing...

Red Sox Again Need to Emulate Oakland A's as 'Moneyball' Moves to Version 2.0

Remember the second-to-last scene of the film version of Moneyball? If you don't, it features an actor portraying Boston Red Sox owner John Henry courting Brad Pitt -- excuse me, courting Billy Beane (really now, who doesn't want to court Brad Pitt?), and specifically telling the general manager that any teams which aren't using his methods of player evaluation are "...

Josh Beckett rips Boston sports media, "It's only a matter of time until they get you"

After Josh Beckett departed Boston for his new home in Los Angeles as part of one of the bigger trades in MLB history, he decided to state some not so nice words about the Boston sports media before he left. In an interview with WEEI's Rob Bradford, Josh spoke very candidly about the Boston media machine and their ability to push players out:   "Once they want...

Red Sox-Athletics Preview

When Oakland and Boston last met in early July, the Athletics were a bit of an afterthought in the playoff picture while the Red Sox were just off the cut for the wild card. A three-game sweep by the Athletics essentially spurred their playoff push and initiated Boston's unraveling. The surging A's try to match last season's win total and also beat the Red Sox for a...
