The earliest the Rangers could see Frank Francisco is Friday. But since he's scheduled to have a rehab assignment in Double-A Frisco tonight, it's probably Saturday before he could take the mound for the Rangers.
This brings up two questions: How do you handle the bullpen without Francisco and how do you handle it when he returns?
One of the great things about baseball is that a domino effect happens when it comes to bullpens. For example, Jason Jennings pitched two innings on Tuesday in a 5-run game and threw 29 pitches. I'm sure manager Ron Washington did not want to use him again. But by using him Tuesday, he was unavailable Wednesday. And with no Francisco, the options he had were limited. It puts importance on the starters going deep and Harrison, under a pitch count coming off the DL, got five innings. So Washington went with Jason Grilli, Darren O'Day, Eddie Guardado and C.J.
