They do things differently in the South. The Huntsville Stars, the Brewers’ Double-A affiliate, have announced that July 3 will be “2nd Amendment Night” at Joe W. Davis Stadium in Huntsville, Ala. All card-holding NRA members will be granted free admission to the ballpark, and the festivities will the raffling off of gift certificates to Larry’s Pistol and Pawn. An advertisement for the event posted on the team’s Facebook page caused a stir among the sports blogging committee, prompting the Stars to clarify via their Twitter account that no actual guns would be given away during the game. 2A Night features a raffle from Larry's Pistol and Pawn. Winners get certificates redeemable at LP&P. Raffle tickets 4 sale during game.— Huntsville Stars (@HuntsvilleStars) June 28, 2013 There is not a 'gun giveaway' as some of the bloggers have posted. Please fact check before U post & treat your keypad as if it was loaded.— Huntsville Stars (@HuntsvilleStars) June 28, 2013 Huntsville general manager Buck Rogers reiterated this fact in an interview with AL.com, also stressing the fact that the Stars do not allow guns inside their ballpark. He did say, though, that giveaways of this sort are not uncommon. “And since everybody’s buying guns hand over fist and Larry’s Pistol and Pawn wants to get involved in some sponsorships and they had a line out there a mile long [to buy guns],” Rogers said. “We’re having a Second Amendment night to talk about things anyway. It’s an educational night. No guns coming to the game. Nobody is giving away guns. “Our approach on our Fourth of July show, we’re going to do a night talking about the Constitution. We’re handing out copies of the Declaration of Independence to all the fans coming into the game and making it a patriotic salute.” Check out the poster for the event — which promises “an exciting night of baseball filled with patriotism, fun, food and firepower” — below.
