Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart hasn't lived up to expectations since being acquired from the Rockies prior to the 2012 season. Stewart made $2.2375 million in 2012 with the Cubs, and played in just 55 games after surgery on his left wrist. Chicago nontendered him after the year, and re-signed him for $2 million. This season, Stewart hasn't played a game in the majors, logging 39 games with the AAA Iowa Cubs and struggling with a .164/.279/.345 line, missing some time with a strained quad. In response to a fan's question on Twitter about when he'd be back in the majors, this is how Stewart responded. Probably neverRT @wesjameson11: @ian_stewart_2sc good game tonight bro!! Any word when your heading back to Chicago? — BeefStew2 (@IAN_STEWART_2sc) June 11, 2013 Stewart then thanked fans for their support, and explained to others that he just couldn't get a rhythm going in AAA this year. He also seemed more than resigned to the fact that the Cubs were willing to let him rot in AAA, letting him collect his salary before nontendering him after the season. Then, Stewart had a nice response to Cubs beat writer Paul Sullivan, who said that he gets to keep his money anyway. Stewart is a guy who showed flashes of brilliance in the majors and minors, but could never really stay healthy. He never logged 500 plate appearances in a major league season, though his 25 homers in 2009 with the Rockies was second on the team behind Troy Tulowitzki. He was a top 100 prospect for five straight years, and was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in baseball in 2005 behind Joe Mauer, Felix Hernandez, and Delmon Young...so two outta three ain't bad.  [follow]
