Raul Ibanez might not get as many at-bats as the marquee sluggers on the Yankees. Still, he has shown a flair for the dramatic that rivals any of his teammates. Ibanez hit a tiebreaking grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning and New York beat Toronto 6-3 on Monday night after Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista left the game with a wrist injury. Six of Ibanez's homers this season have either tied the score or given New York the lead, according to STATS LLC. Eight of his 12 long balls have come after the sixth inning. ''I don't really think about it that much. Just try to do whatever I can to help out,'' Ibanez said of his clutch hitting. ''Just try to stay in the moment.'' The Blue Jays might have lost one of baseball's top sluggers for an extended period. Bautista injured his left wrist on a swing in the eighth and was removed from the game. He hit a long foul ball against David Robertson and immediately grabbed his wrist, dropping...

Yankee fans cannot blame Alex Rodriguez

There is no ‘i’ in TEAM. The New York Yankees were looking to sweep the LA Angels yesterday, but after a hard fought game the Halos beat the Bombers 10-8. Of course the game went down to the last out, as the Yankees had the bases loaded and Alex Rodriguez couldn’t get the job as he popped up for the final out. Overall a successful weekend in the Bronx as the Yankees won the...

Yanks Await Word on Gardner's MRI Results

From Connor Orr:Manager Joe Girardi did not have any definitive news on injured left fielder Brett Gardner (right elbow) Tuesday night, amid reports Gardner could be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Girardi said he called Gardner yesterday, but couldn’t speak with him because Gardner was undergoing an MRI. “I think he was in the MRI tube,” Girardi joked, saying...

Open Letter to Brian Cashman: Don't even pick up the phone

Dear Madam or Sir,Once again, the Yankiverse is buzzing over potential trades. Because it's July, we always go through this pointless charade, like the 12 days of Christmas, wondering who we can get. And if we do cut a deal, it's immediately cheered and a year later, lambasted. This year, let's do nothing. That was the policy of perhaps the greatest GM in modern...

Yankees' backup left fielders keep coming through

Brett Gardner has appeared in just nine games for the Yankees this season, and none since injuring his right (non-throwing) elbow attempting a diving catch on April 17. As general manager Brian Cashman said Sunday, the Yankees barely have missed the speedy outfielder and lineup pest because of the presence of two aging players whose skill sets won't be confused with Gardner...

Yankeetorial: We can put a golf cart on Mars and find the Higgs Boson, but we can't decipher the mysteries of Brett Gardner and Eduardo Nunez?

I offer two words to summarize the ongoing status of Yankee LF Brett Gardner's problem elbow.Quack. Quack.Good grief, what are they using to analyze it, a divining rod? Who's running the show, the team midwife? Gardner's been crocheting in front of the daytime boob tube since Tax Day, his arm wrapped in tin foil, but when he visits Marcus Welby for a monthly checkup...

Top Play: Curtis Granderson Robs Mike Trout

Curtis Granderson made the catch of the day by robbing fellow center fielder Mike Trout of extra bases on Sunday. Trout launched a 2-1 pitch deep to center field that appeared to be destined for extra bases, as Granderson was shading the Angels top prospect to right center field. After a long run to track the ball down, Granderson made a stellar catch at the warning track just before...

Podcast Episode 14: Mid-Season Musings

I put this episode together after the Yankees opened the second half of the 2012 season by taking 2 out of 3 against the Angels. Topics include the aftermath of Robinson Cano's horrible Home Run Derby, disappointing facts about Melky Cabrera, my disdain for Paul O'Neill (Yes, you read that right.) and Darnell McDonald's dred locs. I close things out by talking about my...

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 3

NEW YORK -- Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jason Frasor had just frozen Nick Swisher on a called third strike with the bases loaded to record the second out of the eighth inning and quiet the Yankee Stadium crowd. Frasor appeared in position to escape the jam with the score still tied, but, as opponents have said all season, there is little relief in the New York Yankees lineup. ...

A look at Joe DiMaggio (Video)

On the anniversary of Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak we take a look at Joltin' Joe's career. Joe DiMaggio, nicknamed "Joltin' Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", played his entire 13-year career for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941), a record that still stands. DiMaggio...

Phelps Going For Gold

ROCHESTER, NY - In about two weeks, many Americans will have their eyes set on Michael Phelps as he tries to swim his way to another gold medal. For the New York Yankees, the team is focusing more on another Phelps, David Phelps, as he makes the transition back to a starting pitcher.
