Found April 23, 2013 on Red Hot Mama:
Last game The Cubs were 5-12 when they rode in to Cincinnati for last night’s game, but it still took the Reds 13 innings to beat them. The Cubs got to Mike Leake early on and had a 2-0 lead by the middle of the third. Jay Bruce led off the seventh with his first home run of the season, which was followed up later by Jack Hannahan tripling in Chris Heisey to tie it up. But regulation play wouldn’t be enough to break the tie. I started drifting in and out of sleep around the eleventh. When Luis Valbuena hit a 2-run bomb off Alfredo Simon in the top of the thirteenth, we finally decided that sleep was more important than the game. It was our loss, though, because Xavier Paul singled, Brandon Phillips doubled, Jay Bruce doubled them both in to tie it up, and finally Cesar Izturis singled in Bruce to put this one in the win column for the Reds. Next game There’s more action against the Cubbies tonight at 7:10 p.m. Tony Cingrani (LHP, 1-0, 1.80 ERA) takes on facial hair that’s older t...

Ted Berg over at the USA TODAY certainly has and was impressed enough by the switch-hitting center field that he even included him in his...

You see, a Cincinnati...

Injuries, the Reds, and the unluckiest team in the NL Central

Ryan Ludwick attempting to drive in a run in his healthier days. With the minor injuries to Zack Cozart and Jonathan Broxton recently, I started thinking about how injury prone the Cincinnati Reds have seemed so far during the 2013 season. So I loaded up a list of all the injured players across Major League Baseball to compare the Reds to their National League Central opponents. The...

Rank Relief: Someone from the Cubs who is not Carlos Marmol

Michael Bowden watches Jay Bruce’s game tying double roll to the wall The Cubs were at it again tonight but this time Carlos Marmol somehow stayed out of the spotlight.  The Cubs are not a great team but they have Theo Epstein so they will probably win a World Series soon despite severed goat’s heads.  Tonight it almost seemd liek they would steal one from the Reds.  In the...

Jim Deshaies is Trying Not to Scare Anyone

Carson Cistulli has posted a short interview with new Cubs color commentator Jim Deshaies over at Fangraphs. In it, he talks about his transition to Chicago after 16 years in Houston and having to adapt to an audience that is unfamiliar with his style. He also talks about his philosophy in presenting analytics to a wide array of fans. …I think the way the game has changed because...

Random Cubs Thoughts on Getaway Day

With the Chicago Cubs, fans always talk about the team being in a big market with a strong fan base and lots of funds coming in. There is some truth to that, but there are some details that we should probably discuss as well. Chicago Cubs to have "Zubaz pants" giveaway day against Pirates

One of the terrible things to come out of the 1990's was the creation of Zubaz pants and it appears that the Chicago Cubs are going to attempt to bring them back into style during a special giveaway day at Wrigley Field this season. On September 23, when Chicago faces the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs will hold "Zubazpalooza 2013", and for the fans who buy those specialty...

When it Comes to the Cubs, Motley Crue Said it Best

Last night I fell asleep with Motley Crue’s song “Same old Situation” playing over and over in my head. After watching the Chicago Cubs once again blow a winnable game, not once but twice, can you blame me? They continue to find ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and even though each day is a new adventure, this act is getting old rather quickly. The only difference...
