Found September 27, 2012 on PRO Rumors:

The Cleveland Indians, who are 65-91 this season, decided to fire manager Manny Acta today. Former catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. will be the team's interim manager for the reminder of the season.

Major League sources close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports say that the Indians are considering Terry Francona for the position. Actually, it appears that Francona has had preliminary contact with the Indians. Alomar will also be considered for the position.

Rosenthal adds though, that the Indians would have to offer Francona a substantial sum of money “to persuade him to leave his job as an analyst for ESPN.” The 53-year old Francona led the Red Sox to two World Series before being fired after the 2011 season.

Acta Goes Down, But Antonetti Should Have Gone With Him

Full disclosure right off the bat: I am in the tank for Manny Acta. Say what you want to say about Acta the manager, but the man himself is a true gem. Anyone who has covered him, seen him speak in public, or was lucky enough to cross paths with him can’t help but like him. He is the definition of the word “personable.” In the end, personality can only get you so far. The results...

Firing Acta solves little

Holding Manny Acta accountable for what the Cleveland Indians season became would be sort of like saying a leak in the aqueduct led to the fall of the Roman Empire. The Indians have issues. Lots of issues. The manager was not among the most prominent. Manny Acta actually had his positive attributes. He was patient and honest. And he knows baseball. For three-quarters of one season...

Indians fire manager Manny Acta

The Cleveland Indians have fired manager Manny Acta after the team collapsed from contention. Acta, hired by Cleveland in 2009 after two losing seasons as Washington's manager, couldn't stop the Indians from falling to last place in the AL Central. They were within three games of first place on July 21 before losing 21 of 25 and eventually sliding all the way back to last...

Alomar in running for Indians' full-time managerial job

Sandy Alomar Jr.'s debut as interim manager was a successful one as Cleveland beat Kansas City 8-5 Friday night in the first game of the Indians' season-ending six-game homestand. It was a nice start for Alomar, who is the favorite to be named the Indians' manager for 2013. The Indians, who fired manager Manny Acta on Thursday, intend to conduct a thorough managerial...

Manny Acta fired in Cleveland

The rolling of managerial heads has begun a week before the end of the season with the firing of Manny Acta as Cleveland Indians manager. He'll be replaced by his bench coach and former long-time Indians catcher Sandy Alomar Jr for the rest of the season. Acta just didn't work out during his three year stint as Indians manager, replacing Eric Wedge prior to the 2010 campaign...

Royals-Indians Preview

After firing manager Manny Acta, the Cleveland Indians could use a dose of positivity. The Indians will try to gain that Friday night in their debut under interim boss Sandy Alomar Jr., seeking their first three-game win streak in nearly three months and an improved showing against the Kansas City Royals. Cleveland (65-91) was 3 1/2 games out of first in the AL Central as recently...

Francona joins Alomar as candidate to manage Tribe

Terry Francona has joined Sandy Alomar Jr. as a candidate to become manager of the Cleveland Indians. Alomar prepared for his first game as interim manager Friday, a day after Manny Acta was fired. General manager Chris Antonetti said both were candidates and others currently employed by teams could become part of the search. ''I'm excited and I'm honored that they...

MLB Rumors: Cleveland Indians Hoping To Hire Terry Francona To Replace Manny Acta?

But even before...

Indians 8, Royals 5

Sandy Alomar Jr. won his first game as Indians manager as Jason Kipnis drove in three runs and Cleveland beat Kansas City 8-5 on Friday night, handing the Royals their sixth straight loss. Sandy’s First Game As Manager Provides Mixed Feelings

David Blaine, David Copperfield, Harry Houdini, Manny Acta… one of these men is not a magician. Sandy Alomar Jr. won his first game as the manager of the Cleveland Indians last night. It couldn’t have gone much better, really. He got a quality start from I-71 veteran in southpaw David Huff, the piecework lineup combined for 16 hits, and the bullpen closed it out with Chris Perez...
