If you have seen Indians left-hander Rafael Perez pitch so far this season, you can tell something has been off with him. He is barely touching the mid-80′s with his fastball. We don’t know the cause of that loss of speed, but the Indians are obviously concerned. This afternoon, Perez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left lat muscle.
His place on the roster will be taken by lefty Nick Hagadone, who did a nice job in his week long stint with the Indians last week. Hagadone made three appearances, allowing one earned one in three and a third innings. He struck out four and walked just one.
It’s not known as of yet how long Perez will be out, but Hagadone is the future left-handed set up man for Manny Acta’s bullpen. He was spectacular this Spring in Goodyear and will look to continue his hot hand now that he is back. Acta won’t be shy to use the power-throwing southpaw.
In Columbus, Hagadone hasn’t allowed an earned run on four hits in seven and a third innings pitched with seven K’s and one walk.
