The Cleveland Indians have told David Huff that he will not
make the team and will thus become a trade candidate this spring, according to
Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer.

The Indians passed on the same message to outfielder
Ezequiel Carrera, who was designated for assignment soon after the news was reported.
Huff and Carrera are both out of options, so they will have to pass through
waivers before they can be sent down to the minors.
Huff was competing for a spot with the Indians’ pitching
staff. The 28-year-old has pitched both in relief and as a starter for the
Tribe – though he’s spent a majority of his time in the bigs starting.
The right-hander appeared in six games – including four
starts – last season, posting an ERA of 3.38 over 26 2/3 innings. He owns a
career ERA of 5.30 with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.62 over four seasons in
He spent most of his 2012 season in the minors, pitching
between Double- and Triple-A. Over 25 appearances – including 23 starts – he
maintained an ERA of 4.83.
