As the offseason has progressed, we've seen some of the bigger names come off the free agent board. However, there are still some well-known players out there who battled injuries that have certainly affected their offseason standing. These players are still un-signed and available for the right team - but some may be a risk.
This is not an all-inclusive list of free agents who suffered through injuries in 2012, but it does hit on some key players.
Travis Hafner
Luke Scott
Aubrey Huff
Carlos Lee
Jason Bartlett
Jim Thome
Scott Rolen
Freddy Sanchez
Grady Sizemore
Roy Oswalt
Roy Oswalt is an interesting name on this list. By conventional wisdom, he should still have a couple solid years left in the tank. He is only 35 years old. However, injuries may have got the best of him. He started the 2012 season late with the Texas Rangers and he struggled mightily.
Jim Thome has been insisting he is not retiring, but he has yet to land himself a ne...

The culture and roster have changed, so what’s the Tribe’s next move?
It has been quite the offseason for the Indians. From the day Manny Acta was fired, the Dolan Family Ownership pushed forward with a new era for their downtrodden organization. Many scoffed (me included) when it was decided that Team President Mark Shapiro and GM Chris Antonetti would stay on board to oversee the changes that were about to come. Just over three months later, Antonetti...

The Indians completed a trade today sending right-handed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez to the Pirates in exchange for outfielder Quincy Latimore. Gomez had been designated for assignment last Wednesday to make room on the roster for newly acquired free agent pitcher Brett Myers.

MLB News: No players elected to HOF; Kenny Lofton and Sandy Alomar off ballot
If you were reading and paying much attention to the buzz surrounding this year’s HOF voting, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the BBWAA didn’t elect anyone to the hall this year. Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and those associated with the steroid era were denied. The closet was Craig Biggio, who fell 39 votes shy of the 75 percent required...

2013 IBI Positional Rankings: The Left-handed starters
We continue with our 2013 prospect coverage here at the IBI with a look at the left-handed starters in the Indians system. The Indians have not had a suitable left-handed starting pitching option in their rotation since they traded Cliff Lee in July of 2009, and that is still the case as the Indians will likely go into the 2013 season with an all right-handed starting rotation. ...
Quincy Latimore for Jeanmar Gomez
The Pirates have traded organizational player Quincy Latimore for perennial sixth starter type pitcher Jeanmar Gomez. My feelings haven’t changed much since I wrote about him in a preview last season. Jeanmar Gomez… Jeanmar Gomez…. Jeanmar Gomez….. What is there to say about Jeanmar Gomez? Honestly I don’t really know. He spends a lot of [...]

Gomez is a big leaguer, but not a very good one. He’s 24 years old and has 206 career innings under his belt, but his ERA is above 5.18 (5.96 last year), and he...

Latest on Grady Sizemore
Don’t expect free-agent outfielder Grady Sizemore to sign with a team anytime soon.
Sizemore, 30, underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee in September, and does not want to commit to a team until he is ready to play again, according to his agent, Joe Urbon.
“It could be Opening Day. It could be midseason,” Urbon said. “Midseason is more likely.”
Urbon...
