ATLANTA The fans voted Freddie Freeman into the MLB All-Star Game, but a thumb injury might preclude the Braves first baseman from playing in the Midsummer Classic. On Sunday, the Braves announced that Freeman would miss Sunday's game against the Reds, the season's unofficial first-half finale. As such, Freeman is questionable for Tuesday's All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York (home of the Mets). According to Freeman, he injured his left thumb on Saturday, after fielding Andrelton Simmons' off-line throw to first base, prompting Freeman (nine homers, 61 RBI, 49 runs, .308 batting, .386 on-base percentage) to catch the ball, off-balance, and collide on the glove side with Reds baserunner Chris Heisey. Evan Gattis, the Braves' red-hot rookie in April and May, will assume Freeman's spot at first base in Sunday's lineup. To clear his roster slot, the Braves placed B.J. Upton (adductor muscle strain) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday. Before the callup, Gattis (14 homers, 37 RBI) was on a rehab assignment in the minors, working through an oblique injury.
