PLAYERS: Colby Lewis
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
Mlb-2010-august-oakland
The Texas Rangers could get some pitching help in the near future.  Both Colby Lewis and Martin Perez are progressing and inching closer to a return from their respective injuries.  Lewis will immediately get a spot back in the rotation.  Perez, though, will have to fight for work. According to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, both Lewis and Perez are starting the minor league assignment portion of their overall rehab program.  Perez made his first rehab start yesterday, and Lewis is scheduled to make his first start today.  Lewis is on the mend after undergoing surgery to repair a flexor tendon in his elbow, while Perez is recovering from a fractured left wrist. Because of Texas' current pitching depth, there is no guarantee that Perez gets placed back into the starting rotation.  The Rangers have done well with both Lewis and Perez on the DL.  They are currently 20-12 while using pitchers like Justin Grimm and Nick Tepesch. Lewis has no concerns over trying to win back a spot in the rotation.  He is a mainstay in Texas.  Either Tepesch or Grimm will likely lose their job and be sent back to Triple-A or moved to the bullpen.  Of course, even if either of those two is moved to the bullpen, the Rangers will still have to find someone to option or designate in order to clear roster space. Adrian Beltre was not happy with Elvis Andrus for coming near his pop-up (GIF)

Adrian Beltre does not like it when people come into his territory when he is calling for a fly ball. If you didn’t know that prior to the Texas Rangers’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night, you do now. As you can see from the GIF above that was posted on Reddit, Beltre was camped under a pop fly when shortstop Elvis Andrus came drifting over and looked like he...

It was a single in the 9th that got the Texas Rangers their 20th win in the home run derby against Boston.

The Texas Rangers were able to edge out the Boston Red Sox in what looked like a home run derby. Both teams were tied at 3 win the 9th inning started and it looked like this game could go into extra innings. The Rangers watched the Red Sox jump out into a 3-0 lead on David Ortiz first inning home run that drove in Dustin Pedroia to make it 2-0 in the 1st. Then in the second inning...

Can Yu Darvish strike out 300 hitters this year?

Yu Darvish is having an unreal sophomore season for the Rangers. In seven starts and 45 2/3 innings, Darvish has a 2.56 ERA, accrued 1.9 fWAR, and has struck out a league-leading 72 hitters. To put in perspective how vast the 15 strikeout difference between Darvish and second-place AJ Burnett is, consider the fact that Burnett could throw a nine inning complete game at his current...

Is the Rangers' fast start a mirage?

Timing is everything in life. No team in baseball knows that better than the Texas Rangers who are off to a 20-12 start, giving them the second-best record in the American League. Considering their success in recent years, there is no doubt that the Rangers are good, but are they really as good as their record suggests or are they just the beneficiaries of some really good timing...

Brewers go for short sweep of Rangers tonight

The Texas Rangers have played one team that currently possesses a winning record this season, earning a recent three-game sweep against one of the best teams in baseball. Brewers strike first, Rangers can’t rally

Justin Grimm had an outstanding April — two wins, an ERA of 1.59, and earning AL Rookie of the Month honors.  But May hasn’t been so kind for the Reaper.  Tonight, his ERA ballooned a little more as he gave up five runs in the 1st inning — on three singles, a double and a home run. It was hideous, but I tried to stay optimistic. It was only the 1st inning after all, and I...

However, after sweeping [...]The post Texas Rangers not feeling the love from the...

Scott Feldman = Rangers killer

It’s no secret that I’ve always had a special place in my baseball heart for Scott Feldman.  I was probably among the very few who liked him toward the end of his Rangers tenure.  And I will take full blame for his regression after that 2009 season.  I bought a Feldman shirsey and he was never quite the same. He seems to be OK with the Cubs though.  Especially against his...

3 Stars of the game: Game 31

Well that certainly was not how anyone in the Red Sox organization wanted the series in Texas to go. The Sox dropped all 3 games to the Rangers, who now have allowed St. Louis and Texas to tie them with the best record in the major leagues at 20-11. Starting pitching was not the problem in the last 2 games of this series, the lack of run support was. Here are the 3 stars of the game...
