The Mets have three players currently on rehab assignment, once a player has completed the required disabled list days ( 15/60 days) and is cleared by the medical staff to resume baseball activities, the team is required to re-instate that player 20 days from his first rehab game ( 30 days pitchers).Of the three players Luis Castillo is the closest to returning but he's also the odd man out. A. Reyes is a young version of Castillo, while his range isn't what Castillo's was in his prime he is that pesky, exciting type of player who can smell a rally. Damion Easley provides the veteran leadership, utility infield and pinch hit bat that a demoted Castillo would hope to slot into. According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News Castillo's rehab assignment expires midweek. Meanwhile, Ryan Church and Trot Nixon have moved to New Orleans (NY Post) to avoid delays due to tropical storm Fay.
