On Wednesday, Ichiro took his first day off from the season and the Seattle Mariners scored 21 runs against the Texas Rangers. The day off gave Manager Eric Wedge the opportunity to plug the M’s best hitter this season, Kyle Seager, into third spot. Wedge has some tough decisions ahead of him with the batting order. Ichiro is batting a respectable .271 and he trails only Seager at .278.  The issue with Ichiro is that he does not hit for power or in the clutch.  The season is a third over and Ichiro has one home run, 11 doubles, and 17 RBI’s. That’s awful production for the third spot in the line-up. Ichiro is an enigma.  There always been many factors on deciding anything about playing time, where he bats in the line-up and what position he plays from the top down.  Ichiro is a national hero in Japan and the owner is Japanese so this could factor into Wedge’s decision on moving Ichiro out of the third spot and probably down in the line-up. Ichiro is also a future Hall of Famer so ...

Mariners Top 5 options in the 2012 MLB draft (1st Round)

Expect M’s to look for bats With a farm system consisting of Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen and James Paxton, one would assume the Seattle Mariners aren’t going to be looking at a lot of pitchers on draft night. Even with the old adage “you don’t draft what you need, you draft the best possible player,” it’s hard to see the Mariners not taking an impact bat with their...

Delabar to AAA Tacoma Stephen Pryor to the big leagues

Manager Eric Wedge had been looking for a day to rest Ichiro, who came into the day with the most games played in the major leagues this year, 52. Today Ichiro got his day off. And the Mariners scored 21 runs. Kyle Seager, Jesus Montero, and Justin Smoak batted 3,4, and 5. In other news. We're hearing via several sources Source confirms that Stephen Pryor has been called...

Ichiro back batting in the lead off spot for the Mariners

The 2012 Seattle Mariners‬ starting lineup for Friday's series opener at ‪the Chicago White Sox‬ features one BIG change. Ichiro Suzuki is back in leadoff spot. (Official Lineup) The Mariners got this one right in my opinion. He's lost a ton off his batting avg. He's familiar with the lead-off spot. I hope this works. What is accomplished is that Seager, Ackley...

Reasons to love the Mariners 21-8 drubbing of Texas

Those are football numbers! The Seattle Mariners came out swinging in Arlington last night, assaulting the Texas Rangers 21-8. That’s right, folks. The Mariners scored 3 touchdowns and the Rangers scored 1 and successfully converted their 2 point conversion! All jokes aside, it was a very impressive performance that hopefully shows that this team is finally making some progress...

Mariners promote Pryor from Class AAA

The Seattle Mariners have called up right-handed reliever Stephen Pryor from Class AAA Tacoma, the team announced Friday. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mariners moved left-handed pitcher George Sherrill from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Pryor has a 0-0 record with nine saves and a 0.64 ERA in 21 games this season. He was promoted from Class AA Jackson to...

Bottom of the Ninth: Out of His League

Seattle Mariners: After surrendering 6 ER and 13 baserunners in 4 appearances, Brandon League is out as the closer in Seattle. His 13/12 K/BB is not going to cut it, and his 7.6% swinging strike rate and career-worst 45.8% zone percentage don’t offer much hope moving forward. However, his trade value is close to zero for the Mariners if he isn’t closing, so he should find himself...

Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox: MLB baseball love ‘em & hate ‘em Game 1

Mariners 21, Rangers 8

Justin Smoak hit two three-run homers against his former team and the Seattle Mariners used a pair of early eight-run innings to rout the Texas Rangers for the second straight game, winning 21-8 Wednesday night. Smoak had three hits to go with his career high for RBIs as Seattle reached double digits in back-to-back games against the AL West leaders. Jesus Montero homered among...

Seattle wins football game in Arlington

The Mariners scored 8 runs in the 2nd inning. Everyone thought that was so fun that they did it again in the 3rd inning. So fun. Is my sarcasm coming through? I don’t have any idea where that came from. The 1st inning was good.  Derek Holland got out with less than a dozen pitches.   But then, as soon as they hit the field for the 2nd, it was like the Rangers decided to offer...

BP Unfiltered: About 3-, 4-, and 5-run saves by Sam Miller

On Wednesday, Hisashi Iwakuma got his first save in the majors. It doesn't really call for an analysis of his post-save celebration, because it was one of those bastard saves where the pitcher protects a (in this case) 12-run lead by pitching at least the final three innings. Iwakuma's win probability added: 0.02, as he allowed three runs.  There are actually three ways...

Pitching struggles in Rangers' ugly loss

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Justin Smoak hit two three-run homers against his former team and the Seattle Mariners used a pair of early eight-run innings to rout the Texas Rangers for the second straight game, winning 21-8 Wednesday night. Smoak had three hits to go with his career high for RBIs as Seattle reached double digits in back-to-back games against the AL West leaders. Jesus...

What You Need to Know: Thursday, May 31 by Daniel Rathman

The Wednesday Takeaway The Mariners scored eight runs in the second inning of last night’s game against the Rangers. They fooled all of us, including the worldwide leader’s lead play-by-play man, once. Shame on you, Mariners. But then they scored eight more in the third, fooling everyone again. Shame on us for thinking that we could predict baseball. On a 90-degree night...

GIFcap: Brooks Conrad checked into wall by umpire, Michael Saunders catches ball with face

I know the umpire was just trying to get into position, but in the GIF, it certainly looks like he’s purposely trying to check Brooks Conrad into oblivion. If the goal for the defense on a fly ball was to let the ball hit you directly in the face, Michael Saunders wins
