Last Friday the Mets outrighted Jason Pridie and Nick Evans to Triple-A. They could have accepted the assignment or elected free agency. They both chose free agency. A day later Pridie signed a minor league deal with the Oakland A’s. Pridie was just an OK player for the Mets, but he’s easily replaceable and won’t be missed too much. Now it’s time to see where Evans ends up. He’s been bounced around back and forth from the majors to triple-A so many times that it… dear I say it, it reminds me of Heath Bell. Since his debut in 2008, he’s been call-up and sent down about 10 times, and was designated for assignment twice last year within almost a month of each other. Evans has been in the Mets minor league systems since he was 18. Every year since 2004 to 2009 he’s been called up to a high level, and the last two seasons he’s ripped up double-A and triple-A. In 2010 he combined for 23 home runs, 83 RBI, and hit .300 with a .371 OBP in 487 at-bats between Binghamton and Buffalo. In 20...

Nick Evans has declared free agency

According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Nick Evans has declared free agency, and will seek out opportunities with another organization. Earlier this week, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York said Evans had cleared waivers and was expected to become a free agent after being outrighted to the minors last week. In 59 games with the Mets this past season, Evans hit .256 with four home runs...

Nick Evans Leaves Mets Behind (Finally)

The Mets have lost two players in the last few days who spent much of the season either with the Mets, or shuttling back and forth between Flushing and Buffalo. Jason Pridie signed with the Oakland A's after clearing waivers. Pridie chose to become a free agent, and wasn't unemployed for very long. Pridie played well defensively in both RF and CF; a much better outfielder...

Pridie & Evans Exit - Mets Bench Looks Bleak

Win a Brown Penitentiary Shirt Autographed by Heath Bell

Hey Padres fans!  I know most of you are like myself and are fully entrenched in football season, but the baseball off season is about to get very interesting.  The Padres signed Mark Kotsay to a deal on Tuesday, a move that should strengthen the bench.  I know that many of you have questions about the direction of this team, as do I.  Over the next few months we at the Friarhood...

Nick Evans finally goes free; deserves a shot somewhere

Nick Evans never had a chance. Every time he gets a shot, the Mets sign Sheffield, Hairston, Harris, etc. At first he looked like he would be a slap hitter but I think he has truly turned that around and will become an Aubrey Huff, Ty Wigginton type player who plays all corner positions and that is valuable if you can get it from one guy. Speaking of Ty Wigginton…Mets need a second...

Heath Bell Decision Could Come Soon

Heath Bell could sign with a team as quickly as this Thursday.   Bell spoke with The San Diego Union-Tribune today and said he is expecting a three year deal for his next contract which will likely come from an East Coast team, possibly the Red Sox.  Bell has the same agents as Papelbon and has said he would like to know where he is going next year before he leaves for a vacation...

Padres offer Heath Bell a two-year deal

The San Diego Padres are not too optimistic about keeping closer Heath Bell, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports.  Heyman says the team has offered a two-year deal, but he speculates that the free agent reliever can get a three-year, $30+ million deal outside of San Diego. At the July trade deadline, several teams were rumored to be interested in the All Star closer to help...

Heath Bell and Park Effects

When Carson Cistulli asked the collective crowd of FanGraphs readers what they thought Heath Bell would receive as a free agent this winter, they picked out 2.8 years and an annual average value of $9.6 million. Rounding up, we’d get an expected contract of three years and just shy of $30 million, and yesterday, Dan Hayes reported that’s almost exactly what he’s looking for...

Heath Bell Says He'd Be Open to Playing in Boston, Reuniting With Adrian Gonzalez

The Red Sox are likely in the market for a closer. The Red Sox also have a lot of money. Therefore, it would be a good idea for any of the many closers on the free-agent market to keep Boston in mind when deciding where they want to pitch next season. Heath Bell, arguably the best closer to hit the market this offseason not named Jonathan Papelbon, discussed his free agency on Tuesday...

Search for Bullpen Help takes Red Sox to Lidge, Bell

Heath Bell's name has been linked to the Boston Red Sox After Jonathan Papelbon left the Hub for Philadelphia last week for the biggest relief pitcher contract in baseball history (and burning bridges in Boston by saying it wasn’t about the money), the Boston Red Sox have set their sights on improving a bull-pen that was a major part of the Boston Red Sox September collapse...

Buccholz Clears Waivers

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Mets reliever Taylor Buchholz, who missed most of the 2011 season dealing with depression and anxiety, cleared waivers on Monday afternoon and “is expected to join Nick Evans and Jason Pridie in declaring free agency.” Buchholz appeared in 23 games for the Mets this season, boasting a respectable 3.12 earned run average with 26 strikeouts...

Also Alberto Gonzalez and Jeremy Hermida have been released.
