It seemed just like yesterday that when Roy Halladay took the mound every 5th day, the opposing team had no chance at hitting him. He was a machine on the mound throwing strikes, mowing down batters. Now in 2013 his velocity is way down, only hitting 89-90 on the radar and his command is no longer there. Halladay is now 0-2 to start the year, throwing just 7 1/3 IP, allowing 12 H, 12 ER, and 6 BB. In 2010 and 2011 Doc Halladay had a combined 40 wins with an ERA around 2.40. In his last 26 starts he's 11-10 with an ERA close to 5. At the age of 35, he's now in his 15th year as a major league pitcher and his best days are behind him. He's no longer the pitcher who can spot his pitches and blow fastballs by hitters.Mets 7 Phillies 2John Bucks 3-run missle of a home run in the 2nd inning set the tone for Matt Harvey and the Mets against the Phillies. The Mets also got RBI singles from Lucas Duda, David Wright and Ruben Tejada added a 2-run single.Roy Halladay lasted just 4 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 walks and 7 earned runs.Matt Harvey quieted the Phillies bats as he threw 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits, walking 2, giving up 1 earned run and striking out 9.On the flip side Matt Harvey is an up and coming star. He will be competing for Cy Young awards for years to come and he's off to a good start in 2013. He's now 2-0 and in 14 IP, he's only allowed 4 hits, 1 ER and struck out 19 batters. He throws in the high 90s, he has great control and a filthy slider. With his electric stuff, Harvey is a fun pitcher to watch as he can get hitters out in so many ways. At just the age of 24 he will be the face of the Mets staff and a household name for a long time.Braves 2 Marlins 0Paul Maholm was excellent against a weak hitting Marlins team. He threw 7 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7.Justin Upton was a perfect 4-4 with a home run and a double. He scored both runs for the Braves.Juan Francisco and Chris Johnson went a combined 5-8.Kevin Slowey pitched well enough to win as he went 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs but you can't win when your team has 2 hits all night.Reds 13 Cardinals 4This was a 4-4 game headed to the 9th inning and then the Reds bats came alive for 9 runs.Mat Latos allowed 4 runs in 6 innings and did not factor in the decisionShin-Soo Choo went 2-5 with a walk, 2 runs and 3 RBI.Joey Votto went 1-4 with 2 walks, 2 runs and an RBIBrandon Phillips went 2-5 with a walk, home run, 2 runs and 2 RBIJay Bruce went 4-5 with a walk, 2 runs and an RBIJaime Garcia had 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs and also did not factor in the decision. The Cardinals only had 4 hits, and all 4 of the runs were scored off the bat of Yadier Molina.
