Look who it is! Eli "Bad Penny" Whiteside.

Aaron Gleeman at NBC Hard Ball Talk has reported that the Giants have made it official:

Eli Whiteside is coming back to San Francisco.

I first told you about the possibility on Wednesday and conjectured that it would probably be nothing more than a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. And that’s exactly what’s happened here.

The Giants non-tendered Whitey Monday night, making him a free agent. But evidently, no other teams came calling.

San Francisco would have had to pay close to $750,000 through the arbitration process had they tendered him a contract. Now, assuming he makes the team out of camp, Whiteside will earn the league minimum ($480,000), saving the Giants about $300,000.

I still see Chris Stewart as Buster Posey‘s backup, but these things are very fluid and can change pretty quickly.

I hope you enjoyed reading "It’s official: Giants re-sign Eli Whiteside." I'm interested in your opinion on this article. Why not leave a comment at 22gigantes.com?
