Jacoby Ellsbury has a history of injuries, so any time he leaves the game, it’s a concerning sight for Red Sox fans. Ellsbury left Sunday’s game against the Phillies after the first inning. According to the team, he was taken out for precautionary reasons after suffering a jammed right heel, and he will be reevaluated on Monday. Ellsbury was replaced in the Boston lineup by Bryce Brentz. Ellsbury reached base in the top of the first inning on a catcher’s interference call against Phillies backstop Humberto Quintero. During the next at-bat, with Shane Victorino in the box, Quintero attempted a pickoff throw down to first. Ellsbury got back to the bag safely, but he jammed his right heel on an awkward slide. Ellsbury initially stayed in the game, and was subsequently thrown out trying to steal second base. He then played the bottom half of the inning in center field before being replaced by Brentz prior to what would have been his second at-bat. Brentz took over in right field upon entering the game, while Victorino shifted over to center field. Have a question for Ricky Doyle? Send it to him via Twitter at @TheRickyDoyle or send it here.
