We have a winner! Finally, we have a winner.
After 14 long innings, the Red Sox emerged victorious over the Tampa Bay Rays in one of the most hard-fought games all season. The Sox gave back a six-run lead from the first inning onward and a two-run lead in the tenth, but ultimately they came out on top, and that’s all that matters.

Well, Jose Iglesias did not "ride the pine" very long. Manager John Farrell has re-inserted the defensive (and now offensive) whiz in the Red Sox lineup. Iglesias will hit ninth and play third base—one day after the return of Will Middlebrooks. Mike Napoli returns to first base after taking Monday off, and David Ross will spell the red-hot Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind...
Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit two home runs and had four RBIs while David Ortiz and Mike Carp added home runs to make Ryan Dempster and the Boston Red Sox winners in a 10-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday afternoon at historic Fenway Park.

It seems Jose Iglesias will be getting his shot as a utility infielder. Iglesias stepped up into the role in the absence of injured Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks, and made a sound case for why he should get to stick with the big league club.
Iglesias’ success seems to be a blessing and a curse for manager John Farrell, who benefits from Iglesias’ strong play but also...
(Photo: John E. Sokolowski, USA TODAY Sports) BOSTON-- According to a tweet from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks is back from his rehab assignment with the Pawtucket Red Sox, while multi-purpose utility man Pedro Ciriaco has been designated for assignment. Cafardo tweeted this regarding the move earlier today. Pedro Ciriaco...
The Red Sox’ lineup is nearly back to full strength.
Shane Victorino is back after a day off on Sunday and Will Middlebrooks has returned after a stint on the 15-day disabled list. The only piece missing is Mike Napoli, who has a day off after finding himself in a slump for the past week. In the past six games, Napoli is 3-for-21 without an extra-base hit.
Mike Carp, who has heated...
The Boston Red Sox have placed right-handed reliever Clayton Mortensen on the 15-day disabled list due to a groin and hip injury, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. Manager John Farrell told reporters that Mortensen has been dealing with the ailments since spring training.
"Clayton has been dealing with a groin and hip issue
since we left Spring Training," said manager...
A fan proposing at a baseball game isn’t usually news. When it comes at an opponent’s ballpark? Well, that’s a little more interesting.
Some love-struck Boston fan popped the question during a Red Sox game on Monday, but it wasn’t at Friendly Fenway Park that he did so. Instead it was at Tropicana Field, in front of a half-full dome of people probably a little surprised that...
The Jose Iglesias-Will Middlebrooks-Stephen Drew conundrum will be a prominent storyline following the Red Sox over the next few weeks.
Middlebrooks, in his first game back from a rehab stint in Pawtucket, got the start at third base Monday night in Tampa Bay, and he and Drew both struggled at the plate in Boston’s 14-inning win. The two infielders combined to go 2-for-13 with...
After going 4-2 on the last homestand, the Boston Red Sox head out for a seven-game roadtrip. Tonight they'll kick it off with the first game of three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Rays television market...
The Red Sox surge over the weekend helped them retain the best record in the American League, and the third best record in all of Major League Baseball. On Sunday the Red Sox used the long ball to power their way past the Los Angeles Angels, taking the rubber game of the series and winning the series. Here are the 3 stars of the game.
Star 3: Jacoby...
2:45 p.m.: Will Middlebrooks is back, and the odd man out, as has been speculated, is Pedro Ciriaco.
Ciriaco had his shining moments last season on a team that had little else to offer, but he hasn’t been anything but an average fill-in on the big league roster this year. With Jose Iglesias playing some truly inspired baseball in Middlebrooks’ absence, it only made sense to keep...
It’s game two at the Trop after a long night in which the Sox won in 14-innings and tempers were short. The Red Sox (40-25) beat the Rays (34-29) 10-8 and they currently trail the first place Sox by five games in the American League East.
The Red Sox have won seven of their last nine games.
The Sox have the second-best record in baseball behind...
The Boston Red Sox usually have had heated games as tempers would flare during a matchup against the New York Yankees. Now it seems that another of their AL East rivals are getting under Boston’s skin. That team is the Tampa Bay Rays.
Last night the first inning alone saw eight runs, two by the Rays and six by the Red Sox. Boston’s starting pitcher John Lackey started hearing...
