All this Penn State stuff has me desperate to tackle something a bit lighter, yes? Good.

Late this week, my beloved Mets waived utility outfielder Jason Pridie. Pridie, who batted .231, stole 7 bases and did nothing particularly remarkable during his time-to-date in Queens. He may well be back, if he is not claimed.

Regardless, he will now forever be emblazoned in my memory. OK, I’m lying, Well, sort of. You can bet I will never again dismiss Jason Pridie…if only because of his soon-to-be-wife – Bianca Cruz.

We thought it noteworthy to shine the spotlight on Pridie (cough, Cruz, cough, cough) if only to bring to light a national issue that demands resolution – the prejudice of WAG coverage towards only sports largest superstars. Pridie and his soon-to-be-wife (they are set to marry in December, here’s their registry if you want to pick something up) have escaped notice of at least this sports blogger who consumes a good deal within this medium, a channel that seems almost magnetically drawn to WAGS of ballplayers like flies to crap.

Our fascination, though, almost universally falls on the stars. We can recite all the current and former ladies of the harem of Jeter. We throw up photos of whomever finds themselves on A-Rod’s arm. And the majority of“the top 10” lists across sports when it comes to diamond denizens all lean heavily towards the megastars’ WAGS. This is a travesty. This is an injustice. This is BS.

Today, we should stand up and honor the bench players. The role men. Those who have captured the hearts and hands of beauties that are just as all-star caliber as those hitched to the multi-year hundred million dollar contract guys. You gentlemen should be lauded, as your achievement is just as stellar if not moreso.

So, Jason, we hope you come back to Queens. We were always fans of the way you play and approach the game. In the meantime, best of luck for a wonderful wedding. And, if we may, well-played, sir, Way to show bench guys can hit for power. Just don’t judge us if the sound of Bianca Cruz still tickles our eardrums with slightly more pleasure than Bianca Pridie (or, gasp, Bianca Cruz-Pridie).
