7 Reds move up in ESPN's new fantasy baseball top 250 list

Only three players rank ahead of Votto in the new rankings If there's one thing we know about life, it's that it never goes exactly according to plan. And the folks that cover fantasy baseball over at know this as well. That is precisely why they recently wadded up their preseason Top 250 list and re-ranked it using what they know now. It's amazing how...

Reds' Chapman to stay in bullpen...for now

NEW YORK - One day, the Reds promise, left-hander Aroldis Chapman will be a starting pitcher. But it cant happen yet, not when two of the teams top setup men remain on the disabled list. And not everyone with the team is certain it should happen it all. I honestly dont think he can be as effective as a starting pitcher, right-hander Bronson Arroyo, one of the Reds starters, said...

Reds Beat Yankees Despite Struggles

Bailey Pitched well as Reds win 6-5 The Cincinnati Reds (20-19) beat the New York Yankees (21-19) in what was a very weird and often frustrating game for the Reds. The Reds struck out 15 times but still managed to score 6 runs to the Yankees 5. The bullpen took over for Homer Bailey after a strong 6.1 innings and promptly let the Yankees back into the game but never gave it...

Cozart latest to struggle in leadoff spot

The Reds' leadoff hitters continue to struggle at an important aspect of leading off -- getting on base. They are hitting a combined .147.192.227. They are last in the National League in all three categories -- batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Zack Cozart, the current leadoff man, is in a deep slide. He's 3 for his last 32. He was 0-for-4 in...

Latos throwing good pitches, but too many

Right-hander Mat Latos of the Cincinnati Reds has pitched pretty well in the his last three outings. He's given up a total of four runs, in fact. But he's gone six, five and five innings. In the last two, it's taken him 109 and 100 pitches to get through five. That obviously a problem for the bullpen. Latos was the victim of a blown save in the Thursday's 9-4...

Frazier Powers Reds

After a disappointing assignment to AAA right before opening day Todd Frazier now finds himself the de facto regular third baseman since Scott Rolen went on the DL. His two home runs led the Reds to a comeback victory in a series opener against the Mets last night.

The Daily Brief: Interleague Play

Last Game It looks like the Reds were going to sweep the two-game series against the Mets, but then it all came crashing down. They lose 4-9, bringing their record to 19-18. Next Game The Reds start a series with the 20-18 Yankees tonight at 7:05 p.m. Bronson Arroyo (2-1, 3.25 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Reds and face off against some no name guy… Andy Pettitte or something...

Votto hits 3-run blast, Reds hold off Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) -- Joey Votto hit a three-run homer, Jose Arredondo worked out of a ninth-inning jam for his first major league save and the Cincinnati Reds held off the New York Yankees 6-5 Saturday. New York scored twice off Sean Marshall in the ninth, but Reds manager Dusty Baker pulled his regular closer in favor of Arredondo and he got the job done. The right-hander entered...

Red Sox Nava, Reds Costanzo interesting Horatio Alger MLB stories

Boston outfielder Daniel Nava and Cincinnati third baseman Mike Costanzo were barely on their parent team’s radar as recently as spring training, yet they are wearing major league uniforms.       Nava is an Independent original, starting his pro career as an undrafted free agent in Chico, CA (Golden League) in ’07, the summer after he finished at Santa Clara.  He worked...

Up Goes Frazier! Up Goes Frazier!

Todd Frazier went deep twice yesterday.  When asked the other day if Frazier would play, Dusty Baker said, “It could be (Miguel) Cairo.  I’ve got an idea what guys’ strengths and weaknesses are… We’ll see. It’s up to Frazier.   Okay, who switched out my mint toothpicks with splinters!  You know my T-picks kill the skunk breath!”  Todd Frazier is a damn fine specimen...
