Robinson Cano is poised to make a lot of cash this offseason. The free agent second baseman is believed to be the best free agent and his agent, Jay Z’s Roc Nation has already leaked that they want a contract in the range of 10-years $300 million. But on Monday it was Cano’s 31st birthday so the business aspect was put aside for a day to celebrate. Cano had what looks to be an amazing birthday party in Belgium with Jay Z in attendance. Cano and his crew partied at nightclub Magic after Jay Z played in Antwerp. The celebration was boozy as they popped dozens of bottles of Ace of Spades Champagne, which ranges from $1,100 to $22,000 a bottle. Jay Z also gave his biggest client a special birthday gift, a Hublot watch. Jay Z just signed an endorsement deal with the extravagant Swiss watch brand and mentions them quite often in his songs. There is even a Jay Z Hublot watch, the Shawn Carter by Hublot Classic Fusion. Only 100 of the limited-edition gold version of the watch were made a...

Will Curtis Granderson Stay in New York?

The Yankees are widely expected to give outfielder Curtis Granderson a qualifying offer, which would be roughly $14.1 million. For a man of Granderson’s recent performance - .229/.317/.407 in an injury riddled 61 games – that’s not a bad deal. And his agent, Matt Brown, told ESPN as much, saying, “He is going to have to look real hard at that. At the same time, it...

Yankees Fire Strength and Conditioning Coach Dana Cavalea

The Yankees suffered multiple setbacks due to a staggering amount of injuries to key players this season, so it may not be surprising that the team has fired strength and conditioning coach Dana Cavalea as a result. Whether that will fix the injury problems that plagued the Yankees last season remains to be seen. The news comes courtesy of the Pinstripe Bible: Someone...

Adam Wainwright Has Nightmares About Yankees, Prophesies NY World Series

So powerful is the lure of the New York Yankees, that opposing players have nightmares about it. No, really. Even players on teams currently more successful than the Bronx’s own are scared of the beautiful pinstripes. Just ask Adam Wainwright, who happens to be currently competing for a World Championship with the St.Louis Cardinals. Wainwright has apparently heard...

Yankees to Lower Ticket Prices for 2014

Good news for those of you who love going to New York Yankees games (is there anyone who doesn’t love going to New York Yankees games? We don’t want to meet that weird person). Ticket prices are coming down! Okay, okay, so not all the seats are. But it’s still cool news for a franchise that could raise ticket prices if they wanted to; after all, they led the league...

A fine piece of ownin': Congrats to Hal and Hank Steinbrenner for owning the richest franchise in sports

You know what they say:Owners aren't taught. They're born. And the Steinbrothers certainly know how to flash ownership.Yesterday, Bloomberg - the news outlet, not the pixie mayor - estimated the Yankees' current worth at $3.3 billion, the priciest tomato can on the MLB shelf. The Yankee Stadium urinals should be molded of platinum. If the team switched its business to...

Yankees announcer John Sterling will do play-by-play for Kitten Bowl

John Sterling, the voice of the New York Yankees, will be the play by play man of Hallmark Channel's first ever Kitten Bowl. Playing off of the immense popularity of Super Bowl Sunday' Puppy Bowl featured on Animal Planet, the Kitten Bowl will depict kittens playing with toys, running through obstacles and simply being adorable.   As if Sterling's presence in the...

Can the NY Yankees Catch the Red Sox in 20

While the Yankees brass meets in New York to discuss offseason spending, their fans deal with their worst nightmare: the possibility of the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series. But the question among both sets of people is the same: can the Yankees catch their dreaded rivals next season? Well, we’re here to tell you what you want to hear: yes. But it won’t be easy....

Robertson ready to assume closer reins if called on

The bullpen door swung open during the Yankees' last series of the regular season and in what figures to be a sign of things to come it was David Robertson -- and not Mariano Rivera -- answering the call for a save situation. The crowd on hand for the contest against the Astros in Houston booed and Robertson heard it. He understood that the reaction was not personal but the...

‘Absolutely not’: A-Rod camp finally denies PED usage

For months Alex Rodriguez has refused to answer the most basic of questions: Has he or has he not used illegal performance-enhancing drugs since his 2009 confession of earlier usage? On Monday his attorney Joseph Tacopina finally went there. Tacopina told CNN that Rodriguez had “absolutely not” taken illegal PEDs recently and challenged the notion that MLB possesses any evidence...

Yankees Rumors: Shin-Soo Choo, Paul Maholm, Stephen Drew on Yankees’ radar

The New York Yankees appear to have a very busy offseason planned. They were expected to be less active than they have in the past, but that isn’t the case. They are eyeing a $300 million spending plan for this offseason, as I wrote here. In that story I wrote some of their offseason targets, but now there are new players on their list. In addition to the players listed in that...

Why It's Important to Still Talk about A-Rod

Lately we’ve been talking a lot about Alex Rodriguez. We’ve been reporting the court case, the he said, she said, the spats between attorneys, the news that Rodriguez’s camp paid for incriminating evidence, and the strong denial from A-Rod’s spokesperson. We’ve been reporting it all, for better and for worse. Opinions on this are mixed, as they are with absolutely...

Largest signed baseball collection on display

When New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle signed a baseball for 9-year-old Dennis Schrader at a 1956 spring training game in Florida, it began a lifelong obsession. Today, Schrader has more than 4,600 signed baseballs, certified by Guinness as the largest such collection in the world. That obsession is now on display at the St. Petersburg Museum of History in Florida. ''...

2013 World Series: Yankee Universe flew on Cardinals to St Louis

Losing the 2004 American League Championship Series.  Sign in NYC Subway Car. Kurt Schilling’s bloody sock game. Big Papi. Make the Yankees my Daddy. Carlton Fisk. Fenway Park on 4 Yawkey Way. These are just a few remembrances that will speedily make any true-blooded New York Yankees fan fume about why they hate the Boston Red Sox. And as a born and breed New Yorker and Yankees...

Why Star Players Don’t Guarantee Championships (And Your Odds of Drafting Wisely)

You Can’t Predict Baseball — YCPBIt’s a saying often used by John Sterling, the Yankees radio announcer (yeah that’s right I’m a fan of the Evil Empire), and repeated by a few others.Taking that axiom to heart, I’ve always believed we are terrible at predicting future performance, so I decided to look back at the top 50 hitters drafted in 2013 and compared them to...
