The Toronto Blue Jays had a 3-game winning streak snapped with a 10-2 whipping at the hands of the Chicago White Sox. Mark Buehrle stymied the Jays, allowing only six hits and two earned runs over six innings. This came a day after the Blue Jays bats collaborated for 21 hits in a 14-0 win. Brian Burres made his Blue Jays debut, going four and a third innings while allowing six earned runs. Burres was promoted to the Bigs following injuries to both RIcky Romero and Jesse Litsch. I was disappointed in the promotion of Brian Burress, especially with such young promising arms in AAA. I have heard some justifications for Burres' callup, and I whole-heartedly disagree. I heard that the reason Burress was called up, instead of the promising youngsters Brad Mills or Brett Cecil, was because Burress has Major League experience and they felt Burres would feel more comfortable starting for a current first place team. Also, Jays management believed the youngsters were not ready.I am opposed to these opinions for many reasons. To start, needless to say Jays are off to a wonder start. They have had so many starting rotation woes, but the hitting has been phenomenal and kept the Jays in first. However, it is only a matter of time before the lack of both talent and depth in the rotation will catch up to them. Jays management has realize that the rotation is going to be inconsistent at best this season, and will most likely continue to face injury problems as the year progresses. If this is the case, the young arms will have to be ready at any point in this 162 game season to fill in these holes. What better time than now to give Brad Mills or Brett Cecil their Major League debut, right when morale and momentum is high, and the bats will probably be able to support the inexperienced pitchers. If this is a rebuilding season, why not show the fans what they intend to build upon?Up next, Jays hope to continue their streak of winning every series this season. Roy Halladay will be up against Jose Contreras in the final game of a three game set.
