Blue Jays Rant:
In a game full of roads to redemption, and comeback stories, the one of starter Dustin McGowan has been the most compelling one for this Blue Jays franchise. After a month of 1-inning rehab work in extended spring training that was slowed by a (almost expected) setback, McGowan’s story moved on to another chapter last night, as the righty threw 2.2 scoreless innings in his 4th rehab start with the Dunedin Blue Jays.
The 44-pitch outing was the longest of McGowan’s 4 starts so far with the A+ team, and is the deepest he has gone in a game since 2008. The Blue Jays had set a strict pitch count for McGowan at 45, and he reached that with one out left in the third inning in last night’s matchup against the Bradenton Marauders, after allowing just one hit and striking out 3 in the process. It was the best result the fireballer has had since the rehab stint began, and a far cry from his 0.2 IP debut in which he allowed 3 runs in a walk in the beginning of July.
