According to a source, Jeff Locke is headed to Pittsburgh to join the club.

Kevin Correia is slated to spot start on Wednesday for the Pirates. Locke, who was scheduled to start for Triple-A, was promoted likely as insurance arm.

The move is not yet official. No word yet on the corresponding roster move.

Locke Will Serve as Long Man After Correia’s Start

Jeff Locke will serve as the long man in the Pirates’ bullpen. Jeff Locke was promoted to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to provide the club with a volume of innings if the team needs him. With Correia making the spot start against Arizona, and Jason Grilli deemed unavailable in relief due to pitching on back-to-back nights, the bullpen was short arms. The left-hander has been a starter...

Chris Leroux and Jeff Locke Could Fill Roles in Pittsburgh

Chris Leroux has recently been moved into the rotation with Triple-A and could fill a void in the Majors. Both Chris Leroux and Jeff Locke could fill a role with the Pirates to some capacity in the near future. While the Major League club’s pitching staff had an impressive first half to the season, the second half has seen their shares of ups and downs. With the long stretch of...

Minor League Schedule: 8/8/12

West Virginia was off yesterday. Indianapolis has an early afternoon game with Jeff Locke scheduled to pitch. He has the third best ERA in the International League. He is also fourth in the league in strikeouts and tenth, with his 1.22 WHIP. The season for the GCL Pirates, as well both DSL affiliates, ends on August 25th, with each team having 16 games remaining in their schedule...

Jeff Locke Officially Promoted, Alex Presley Optioned to AAA

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially promoted left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke to the majors. Kristy Robinson first reported last night that he was coming up from Indianapolis. To make room, the team has optioned outfielder Alex Presley to Triple-A.

Jeff Locke up, Alex Presley down

The Pirates promoted Jeff Locke and sent Alex Presley down this afternoon. I'm sure this is just a short-term move with Kevin Correia making a spot-start tonight and the Pirates having so many consecutive games, but it's notable that they're sending Presley down instead of Jordy Mercer, if only because Presley now can't be recalled for ten days. It's possible...

Minor League Schedule: 8/10/12

Gerrit Cole will get the start tonight for Altoona. He ranks third among all Pirates minor league pitchers in strikeouts behind Justin Wilson and Jeff Locke. Cole’s 103.2 innings ranks 11th in the organization and his overall ERA of 3.04 trails only Jeff Locke(2.66) and Phil Irwin(2.87) among pitchers who have thrown at least 70 innings. A full recap of yesterday’s games can...

Prospect Trends — Week Ending 8/5

As the minor league season gets into the late stages, most of the teams in the Pirates’ system are playing well.  Even West Virginia, which had a miserable 23-47 first half, is 25-19 and in first place in the second half.  Bradenton is a game over .500 in the second half after going 29-41 in the first half. TRENDING UP Jose Tabata, OF (AAA):  Maybe he’s starting to work his...

Bucs win a wild one

The Pirates came out on top of a very strange game on Wednesday night, and gained a game on the Reds and Cardinals (both lost) in the process. Kevin Correia‘s spot start went just like most of his previous outings. He was roughed up in the first inning, but bounced back to post a “quality start” … and of course, a win. The offense bailed him out, but after two runs in the...

Correia's chance

After moping about for a couple weeks in the wake of the Wandy Rodriguez trade, Kevin Correia gets a spot start tonight to prove his point that he still deserves a spot in the starting rotation. Correia's only pitched once in relief since his last start on July 25th, so I'm quite a bit worried that he'll be rusty out on the mound tonight. He'll face off against Ian...

Pirates Notebook: Marte is as Advertised; Correia Adjusting to New Role

It’s only been less than two weeks in the big leagues for Starling Marte, but we’ve already seen flashes of exciting plays from the 23-year-old that makes you see his special potential. He showed off his power in his very first pitch in his very first at-bat launching a home run in his 2-for-4 debut. We’ve seen him show off his cannon arm by nailing a runner trying to stretch...

Pirates 7, Diamondbacks 6

Neil Walker homered and drove in five runs, Kevin Correia won his seventh straight decision and the Pittsburgh Pirates overcame four errors to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 Wednesday night. Walker hit a three-run homer in the first inning - his career-high 13th - and added a two-run double in the fifth that put Pittsburgh ahead for good. Correia (9-6) allowed three earned runs...
