TEAMS: Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees
NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees hadn't gotten a hit through four innings Monday against Atlanta Braves left-hander Mike Minor, a pitcher who had been tough on them the last time he faced them. And the Yankees also saw their own ace, CC Sabathia, fall behind the Braves on a pair of early runs, looking at first as though he might keep failing to meet the impressive level the rest of the rotation has displayed this month. But the way the Yankees have been playing lately, manager Joe Girardi couldn't help but feel his team would do what it's continued to do during its hot streak. "You figure that we're gonna find a way," Girardi said after the Yankees did just that in a 6-2 win Monday night, New York's 10th consecutive victory. Derek Jeter had a pair of big two-out singles, and Sabathia finally got in step with his fellow starters with a complete-game performance as the Yankees continued their domination of the NL East. Mark Teixeira added his 12...

Hot and cold Yankees: Jeter and Ibanez
HOT: Derek Jeter - Jeter went 0-for-3 last night to snap a nine game hitting streak, but he still got on base twice last night and I wanted to give him props for the streak. He started off red hot before a rough May. Now he’s hitting .311/.354/.356/.710 over his last 10 games. Not a lot of power, but solid performance from a shortstop.
COLD: Raul Ibanez - Ibanez was brought...
New York Yankees CC Sabathia Pitches Complete Games To Push Wins To 10 in a Row
The New York Yankees winning ways continue as CC Sabathia pitches a complete game to push the Yankees win streak to 10 in a row. The Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves 6-2 and now the team is 2-1/2 games ahead of Baltimore in the A.L. East. Sabathia only gave up two runs as he struck out 10 in the game on 116 pitches,84 of those pitches were strikes. Sabathia was in a zone, the Strike...
Sabathia finally keeps pace with rotation mates
Despite a 2-1 record and a 3.86 ERA in his last three starts, CC Sabathia wasn't happy with his work this month. The left-hander had allowed 25 hits and five walks in 21 innings, taking the only loss a New York Yankees starter has suffered in June. Sabathia delivered a vintage performance Monday, throwing a complete game in the Yankees' 6-2 win over the Atlanta Braves,...
Making History: Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez
Last season both Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez would have to admit that they were pressing to reach personal milestones. More or less guaranteeing Hall of Fame induction reaching 3000 hits for the Captain and 600 homeruns for A-Rod, were marks that put player over team and in both instances, we wanted them to get it and then move on. There was a palpable sense of relief when the...
Yanks Streaking, Host Braves
When CC Sabathia takes the mound tonight against the Atlanta Braves, the Yankees will have a chance to do something they haven’t done in seven years – have a 10-game winning streak. That streak came in May of ’05, as Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are the only mainstays from that team. If Interleague play [...]
Yankees Game 66 Lineup: 06/18/12
The New York Yankees are back in the Bronx for a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves. C.C. Sabathia is on the mound for New York tonight. In his last outing vs. the Braves, the southpaw went 7 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 6 for the win. Nick Swisher [...]
A statistical look at the Yankees rotation’s great run
The Yankees winning streak ended at 10 games last night, but the Yankees have still won 20 out of their last 25 and the starting pitching has been the biggest reason.
Literally every one of them has been great lately and last night they reached a landmark that they haven’t reached since 1981 – every starter has gone at least 6+ innings in 19 consecutive starts now. So I decided...
Jeter is glad Clemens beat the rap
Roger Clemens may have lost a few fans— and Hall of Fame votes— while battling a variety of steroid-related charges over the past few years but some of his former New York Yankees teammates are glad the whole saga is over and still on the Clemens bandwagon— including Derek Jeter.
After Clemens was found no guilty on Monday of lying to and obstructing Congress, Jeter said he...

AL Pitching Planner: June 18 – June 24
This week’s AL two-start hurlers feature a pair of lefty aces, a handful of decent options and not much else.
Here are the AL two-start pitchers and other favorable matchups for Week 12:
Two-Start Pitchers
No-Brainers
C.C. Sabathia: 6/18 vs ATL; 6/24 @ NYM – His numbers aren’t as strong as last year, but still one of the best in the AL

Weekly game thread: June 18 – 24
I wish interleague play would never end. The Yankees were a perfect 6-0 against National League opponents and will hope to continue that this week, the 2nd straight week of interleague play. Things are going real well for the starting rotation. The offense has been good, not great though which hopefully is a sign that they can be even better.
