When Andy Dirks had to leave Tuesday’s game with a bum hamstring, Tigers’ skipper Jim Leyland needed a pinch runner. Since he was out near second base, he couldn’t just tell the 6’6″ 270 pound Brad Eldred to head out to replace Dirks. But, he could have had third base coach Gene Lamont relay the message. Or, he could have just played charades. He went with choice (B), and we thank him for it. [Hot Clicks Video of the Day] Jimmy Traina

Verlander surprises special young fan

While visiting the MLB Fan Cave, 11-year-old Shayna Hersh, who is battling cystic fibrosis, had a dream come true when she met Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander.

Detroit Tigers Learning Greatness Doesn’t Come Easy

The Detroit Tigers were supposed to take baseball by storm this season. The addition of Prince Fielder meant World Series or bust. Playing in what many deemed the worst division in baseball could only mean domination. Some fans even predicted a similar start to the 1984 Detroit Tigers’ 35-5 record. One month in, and that didn’t quite happen. A lot occurred to derail Detroit’s...

Tigers' Young won't start immediately upon return

LF Delmon Young won't be in Detroit's starting lineup Friday when he comes off Major League Baseball's suspended list, according to manager Jim Leyland. "He won't play Friday," Leyland said. "He needs to get back into the routine of things, taking batting practice, taking fly balls in the outfield, stuff like that. "Would I put him in a game...

Victor Martinez could be back by the end of this season

It’s been a tough couple weeks for the Tigers who’ve had to deal with losing streaks, inconsistent pitching and Delmon Young’s drunken racist New York City tirade last week. However some potential good news for the team revolves around injured DH Victor Martinez. According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, doctors have given Martinez better than a 20% chance...

Brennan Boesch catches line drive while fighting the lights (Video)

Detroit Tigers right fielder Brennan Boesch caught a sinking line drive while turning away from the ball after losing it in the lights during Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals. Your browser does not support iframes. It happened in the top of the eighth inning when Kansas City Royals DH Billy Butler hit a line drive to right field. Boesch was standing...

Verlander surprises young fan

On the same road trip that capped a bad week for the Detroit Tigers, a little girl's wish came true in Cy Young -- and MVP -- fashion. Meet Shayna Hersh. She's an 11-year-old from Huntington Woods, Mich., whose nickname just happens to be Verlander. Her favorite team is, obviously, the Detroit Tigers. Her favorite player is, of course, Justin Verlander, and she's been...

Jackson, Porcello lead Tigers past Royals

DETROIT (AP) -- Austin Jackson had four hits and Rick Porcello pitched eight strong innings to lead the Detroit Tigers past the Kansas City Royals 9-3 on Tuesday night. The Tigers scored five runs in the first and won for only the third time in 11 games. Porcello (2-2) took advantage of the offensive support to snap out of his slump, allowing three runs and seven hits. In his previous...

Miguel Cabrera Telenovela Debut

I bring my bat and the drama T... Tiger slugger Miguel Cabrera recently appeared in a telenovela spoof at the MLB Fan Cave — “That’s awesome, because back home, all the people watch telenovelas, so it’s gonna be great,” Cabrera said about the spoff. “All the people back in Latin America are going to be excited.” Huge fan of Miguel on the baseball field, good to see...

Brennan Boesch makes no-look grab

In the top of the 8th inning of the Tigers-Royals game on Tuesday night, Billy Butler "lined out to right field," according to the box score. Sounds simple enough, but it wasn't your ordinary line out. Tigers' right fielder Brennan Boesch, who has made catching routine fly balls quite an adventure this season*, lost the ball in the lights, I assume, and turned...

Miguel Cabrera Finds His Calling in Telenovela (Video)

It appears that Miguel Cabrera has found his calling. That’s right, he’s acting. Cabrera is staring in his own telenovela. This show comes complete with Cabrera in an eye patch, a fat guy running with no  shirt on, an absolutely beautiful woman and a guest appearance from a Jim Leyland impersonator. This looks to be top-notch

In the latest podcast, the staff discusses those players that are slumping early in the season, how the organization values Rick Porcello and Max Scherzer, which minor leaguers are making an early case for a promotion, and how the Tigers draft strategy will play out.

Tigers edged by Royals in ninth inning

DETROIT (AP) - Chris Getz's infield single in the ninth inning put Kansas City ahead, and the Royals held on to beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 Wednesday. Joaquin Benoit (0-1) gave up a double to Mike Moustakas, who advanced to third on a groundout and scored when Getz hit a grounder that was too deep into the hole for shortstop Jhonny Peralta to make a strong enough throw. Tim...

Offense Comes Alive, Then Dies

In what was supposed to be a three game series between the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals, turned into a rain shortened series. Detroit came into the series looking to get their offense back on track and start winning at home. The Royals, winners of their last four of five, looked to bring their record back up towards the .500 mark. Last time these two teams faced off...

Tigers reinstate Young, demote Eldred

DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young has been reinstated and is eligible to play Friday night against the Chicago White Sox. Young was suspended for seven days without pay by Major League Baseball after he was arrested last week and charged with yelling anti-Semitic epithets during a late-night tussle at a New York hotel. Tigers manager Jim Leyland has said he...

Andy Dirks Could Be A Great Hitter, If He Learns To Walk

Andy Dirks has jumped out to a pretty good start with the bat this season. He’s collected nine hits in 32 at-bats for a rather good .281 batting average. His contact ability and low strikeout rate (just 9.1% this year) appear to make him a prime candidate to hit at the top of the lineup (perhaps number two behind Austin Jackson), but Dirks’ inability to draw a walk would be...
