The Red Sox will be without Joel Hanrahan for much longer than originally anticipated. The team transferred the closer from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL while he continues to battle elbow problems, taking him out of the equation until at least early July. With Andrew Bailey also currently on the shelf with a biceps strain, Junichi Tazawa is expected to remain as Boston’s closer for the time being. Allen Webster was also sent back down to Pawtucket after allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks in just 1 2/3 innings in a 15-8 loss to the Twins on Wednesday. His spot on the roster will be taken by 27-year-old reliever Jose De La Torre, who will be seeing his first action in the major leagues. De La Torre, a right-hander who was acquired from Cleveland last July, has bounced around the minors since 2006, when he made his debut in the Mets system. After making five appearances for the Sox in spring training, he was assigned to Triple-A, where he has complied a 1.56 ERA and held opponents to a .098 batting average in 10 relief appearances for Pawtucket.
