If you were asked to close your eyes and I told you the following numbers 7 home runs 22 RBIs 290 Average 303 on base percentage and a 661 slugging percentage and said who on the Mets has those numbers you think maybe David Wright? John Buck would not come to mind, yet those are his numbers so far this season on April 23,2013. Buck is supposed to be the stop gap catcher until Travis d’Arnaud shows up. That looks like that won’t happen anytime soon, but that is another story for another time. JOhn Buck has been in the middle of everything positive for the Mets this season. This is not to say that he going to keep this pace up, his numbers the past three years have been 16 homers and 12 homers so he is already half way there. His best year was 2010 for Toronto with 20 homers 66 RBIs and a 281 average. Can he hit those numbers again? That remains to be seen, but he has given the Mets some pop behind the plate for the first time in some time. Not only has he shined at the plate but behind it as well throwing out a would be basestealer on a errant pitch clutch throw-out to second base in the sixth during the Mets’ 2-0 win over the Nationals at Citi Field. The throw-out — on an errant pitch that he snared with a backhand — erased speedy Denard Span. “It’s always nice to hit home runs, but if you’re a real catcher at heart to throw out a guy . . . that felt good,” Buck said.
