PLAYERS: Chris Johnson
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves
The Braves outlasted the Mets 4-1 Wednesday afternoon A Chris Johnson 10th inning homer lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 over the New York Mets Wednesday.  The win gives the Braves a series tie in this brief 2 game set with the Mets. Both lineups really struggled to get anything going on Wednesday afternoon.  Alex Wood and Jonathon Niese did not have their best stuff.  They were both helped out by the opposition.  Niese finished with 7 IP, and 1 ER.   He also struck out 9.  The Braves really struggled to make contact early in the game. Alex Wood finished with 6 IP, and 1 ER as well. He struck out 4 and did a great job pitching with runners on base. The Mets got the scoring started when Josh Satin crushed a ball to left field.  The huge shot by Satin in the 4th put the Mets up 1-0. In the 6th inning, the Braves would tie things up.  The run came at the cost of Jason Heyward.  I will not go into detail about the Heyward HBP. Jim wrote an earlier article about it.  Jordan Schafer entered the game for Heyward, after the HBP.  Later in the inning, Freddie Freeman singled to center to score Schafer and tie the game up at 1. The Mets had a chance to win it in the 9th inning.  They had winning run on 3rd, and the bases loaded when Juan Lagaras, the Mets center fielder, hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning. The 10th looked to be over when Freeman hit a comebacker at the Mets pitcher.  The ball went off the pitchers glove and rolled off the back of the mound.  Freeman was able to beat out a close play at 1st to keep the inning alive. The close play at 1st, kept the inning alive and gave Chris Johnson a chance to hit.  With Andrelton Simmons on 2nd, and Freeman on 1st, Johnson hit his 10th home run of the season.  Johnson’s homer put the Braves up 4-1 and set the stage for Craig Kimbrel. Kimbrel gave up a hit to Marlon Byrd but eventually shut down the Mets for his 40th save of the season.  Game MVP: Chris Johnson: 1-5, R, HR, and 3 RBIs Johnson’s homerun was a huge 2 out hit for the Braves. It gave them a much needed win in the quick day/night turnaround.  It was a great win for the Braves, but it was definitely bitter sweet with the injury to Heyward.  Keep in check with Atlanta Bullpen and we will do our best to keep you up to date with the Heyward injury news. The Braves continue to set pace at the top of the NL.  They now have a 2.5 game lead for the NL best record. The Braves are now flying to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals, who have started to come down to earth as of late. Thursday night, Paul Maholm (9-9, 4.41) will be making his return from a wrist injury.  He will be opposed by Cardinals starter, Joe Kelly (4-3, 3.01). Heyward to Atlanta, Braves to St. Louis

The worst case scenario of any batter is that they will be standing at the plate when a fastball gets away from the pitcher and hits them square in the head or face. This is, of course, the worst case scenario for any pitcher as well. Nobody can adequately prepare to be hit in this way. The Braves, Mets and their respective fans watched this scenario play out Wednesday when Atlanta...

A scary moment arose in the sixth inning of Wednesday afternoon’s Mets-Braves game when Jason Heyward got hit in the face with a 90 MPH from Jonathan Niese. Heyward immediately went down after getting struck and was tended to by medical personnel. He was reportedly spitting blood and taken to a local area hospital for further examination. Braves' Heyward hit in face by pitch, leaves Mets game

The sixth inning of the Braves-Mets game on Wednesday offered up a scary moment, as Atlanta outfielder Jason Heyward was hit near the head with a 90-mile-per-hour fastball from Jonathan Niese. Heyward, who entered the game as one of the most productive second-half hitters in baseball, took the 1-2 pitch up near the right side of his jaw -- the video appears to show it nicked his...

Injury-laden Braves still chugging along with the bigs' best record

ST. LOUIS -- Right fielder Jason Heyward became the latest Braves player to land on the disabled list when a 90-mph fastball broke his jaw Wednesday afternoon at New York. Heyward joined second baseman Dan Uggla who, with his average at .186, decided last week he could not wait any longer for Lasik surgery. Uggla's main backup, Tyler Pastornicky, was lost for the season after...

You Mad, Bro? “The Wheeler Of Fortune”

From SB Nation’s “Talking Chop” Blog: “Going to the game tomorrow, considering I’m 16, is wearing a braves shirt a bad idea?” “Nah. I used to live in Brooklyn. Always wore my Braves stuff. There might be a bit of ribbing, but Mets fans are actually pretty great.” “OMFG, I can already hear that asshole barking.” “I am beyond ready for Gattis to be a masher again...
