Kevin Youkilis earned the respect of teammates and fans during his eight-plus seasons in Boston. None of that matters now.
“Now he’s one of the bad guys. We’ve got to worry about him,” Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester told reporters on Sunday.
Youkilis, who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2001, won two World Series rings and was selected to three All-Star Games during his time in Boston, and he’ll forever be regarded as one of the organization’s grittiest players. Seeing a clean-shaven Youkilis donning pinstripes with the Yankees this season is certainly going to take some getting used to, especially for those players who spent years going to battle alongside the hard-working infielder.
“It’ll be weird,” Lester said of competing against Youkilis as a member of the Yankees. “I wouldn’t have ever thought that it would happen. But he made that choice for him and his family. I’m sure he’s excited about it.”
Youkilis will not only be lacing up his cleats in the Bronx this season, but he also fi
BEST OF MAXIM
2013 is a big year for Jon Lester in more ways than one. Not only will Lester’s performance have a huge impact on the type of season the Red Sox have, but the left-hander is also pitching for his next contract.
Lester is in the last guaranteed year of the five-year, $30 million extension he signed prior to the 2009 season. The Sox hold a $13 million club option for 2014, but this...
Opening Day’s Red Sox-Yankees battle has had a little bit of everything for everyone through the early innings. Whether you’re looking for the new storylines to emerge from the game or hoping to see the same familiar stuff you’re accustomed to, well, you’re in luck thus far.
Kevin Youkilis in pinstripes? Check. Jackie Bradley, Jr. making himself at home? Yup, that too.
After months of waiting, the time is here for you to get out the game day jerseys, tune into the YES Network and finally watch regular season Yankees baseball! It has been a long off-season for the Bombers as they have been dealing with injuries and trying to set their major league roster. The team is now set and ready to take the field as they open the season against the hated rivals...
We shouldn't get too caught up over one game right? NAHHHHH. CUE THE DUCKBOATS.
162-0 baby! The Red Sox attacked an unusally shaky CC Sabathia and Jon Lester managed to work through a rough inning and let the bullpen come in and do shut down the Yankees and come out with an 8-2 win.
This wasn't a classic Sox victory with the lineup cranking out three or four homers...
Take a good, long look at the Red Sox’ Opening Day victory. It’s exactly how this year’s team plans to win ballgames.
The offense collected 13 hits, Jon Lester pitched five solid innings and the bullpen proved to be the shutdown unit that many anticipate it being this season. On top of all that, the Sox showed grit, hustle, aggressiveness, plate discipline and the ability to...
In the first game of the season the Red Sox have already made it difficult for me to pick the top 3 stars of the game. This column will run after every game. The idea is to pick 3 players from either team, who put in the best performances, just like the 3 stars of the game for hockey. I will be keeping track of who earns the awards and with that will be able to accurately predict...
Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox got off to a quick start after a dreadful 2012 season, giving new manager John Farrell an 8-2 win over the barely recognizable New York Yankees on opening day Monday.
Newcomer Shane Victorino led a revamped Red Sox lineup with three RBIs and rookie Jackie Bradley Jr. walked three times and scored twice in his big league debut. Boston's big day...
Sox fans are hoping John Farrell can get Jon Lester and this rotation back into shape
It’s finally here. Time to put last year’s nightmare season to rest and start the 2013 chapter of the Boston Red Sox. The Sox head to the Bronx Monday to open their season against rival New York Yankees. The Sox Yanks series to start the season should be exciting as they come, although neither...
Opening Day observations about James Shields, Jon Lester, Mike Moustakas and others.
I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and
bloggers are saying about the Red Sox after playing the Red Sox. Here's a
dose of 'enemy chatter' from New York.
The Red Sox still may endure another season of misery, but it won’t be just like last year.
