PLAYERS: Jon Lester
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester sat down with the media on Wednesday to discuss the failures of 2012 and his desires for 2013. I’ve got to hand it to the Red Sox ace; he’s been rational, thoughtful and downright blunt. With the Red Sox in need of key leadership this season Lester could be the one to step up and take over the leadership reins.   (Video courtesy of Mike Petraglia) Follow Scott Levesque on Twitter at @scottlevesque.

David Ortiz: MLB players are dumb

David Ortiz has a low opinion of MLB players in light of the most recent PED scandal with the Biogenesis clinic in South Florida.

Jon Lester Is No Mike Trout, But He’s Not Bad at Catching Fish, Either (Photo)

Jon Lester and his fellow Red Sox pitchers are working their way back to Opening Day form, but even spring training leaves them time for other activities. On Wednesday, Lester apparently spent that free time working on his fishing, and he had quite a successful outing. Now, the catch is not as big as the 500-pounder the Angels’ Mike Trout reeled in, but Lester’s catch is still...

Shane Victorino Says He’s Tired of Hearing About 2012 Red Sox Season (Video)

Shane Victorino wasn’t even wearing a Red Sox uniform during the 2012 season, but he says he’s already tired of hearing about last year in Boston. To be sure, much of the talk surrounding the Sox is how they’ll be able to bounce back after a disappointing campaign, but with the positive attitude of Victorino, things are bound to get better. The Red Sox’ new right fielder...

Clay Buchholz Disappoints in Beautyrest Baggo Classic, Wonders if, Like Golf, Lowest Score Wins (Video)

No, Clay Buchholz. It’s not golf, and the lowest score doesn’t win. On Wednesday the Red Sox right-hander took his turn in the Beautyrest Baggo Classic, and, despite some impressive athletic displays last year, didn’t fare too well this time around. Buchholz ended up with  a couple hangers, but ultimately could muster up only three points over his two rounds, putting him in...

Dustin Perdroia Says Expectations for Red Sox Are Just as High as They Ever Were (Video)

Suffice to say, 2012 was a bizarre season for Dustin Pedroia and the Red Sox. After an uncharacteristic losing campaign experienced by the scrappy second baseman, Pedroia went home and, according to him, had a relatively normal offseason. Nonetheless, Pedroia says that, despite what happened last year, the expectations for himself and the team are just as high as they ever were,...

Larry Lucchino Prefers Red Sox Compete As ‘Scrappy, Hard-Charging’ Underdog Team (Video)

For the last two seasons, the Red Sox have been a predicted playoff team. This year, most MLB analysts have Boston finishing in the AL East cellar. Surprisingly, Larry Lucchino prefers it that way. “I kind of prefer being the underdog, being the scrappy, hard-charging team that people don’t expect much from,” Lucchino said on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan. “I think that...

Bob Costas Buys $4.7 Million Newport Beach Mansion Neighboring Red Sox Pitcher John Lackey’s House (Photos)

The rich get richer … neighbors, that is. Red Sox pitcher John Lackey will be welcoming a new neighbor soon with the news that NBC broadcaster Bob Costas is moving in down the street. Costas and his wife Jill recently purchased a $4.7 million home in Newport Beach, Calif. The 4,534-square-foot mansion has a total of  four bedrooms and six bathrooms, along with a guest house and...

Doug Flutie Learns Wiles of Knuckleball With Tim Wakefield in First Episode of ‘The Knuckler’ (Video)

For those waiting to see Doug Flutie get his arm back in the game, the time has come — although they’ll have to be satisfied with watching the quarterback sling a knuckleball. Flutie and four other former athletes are working with former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield to see who can master Wakefield’s signature pitch, the knuckleball. The player who figures it out the best and...

The Rise of the John Lackey Clause

When the Red Sox signed John Lackey as a free agent in December of 2009, they had some concern about an existing elbow injury, but not enough concern to walk away from the deal entirely. So, they (or maybe his agent) came up with a pretty creative solution, adding a league minimum club option to the end of the deal if Lackey missed significant time due to an elbow issue. Sure enough...

John Farrell on John Lackey's status in spring training

One big question mark coming into spring training this season was the health of John Lackey. Lackey had Tommy John surgery in 2011 during the off-season which landed him on the disabled list the entire 2012 season. Now Lackey is back and ready to kick start his career by providing the Red Sox with some much needed depth in the starting rotation.    It’s not surprising that...

John Farrell Confident That Red Sox Have Talent to Win AL East, Rewrite Story of Recent Years (Video)

After two straight seasons that ended in disappointing fashion, the 2013 Red Sox have a chance to flip the script. With new manager John Farrell at the helm, along with plenty of incoming free agents that should shake up the squad, the Sox have a chance to bounce back this season and “rewrite the story,” as Farrell puts it. The skipper stopped by WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan...

Jerry Remy Jokes With Customer Support Caller About Phillies, Yankees During Visit to Comcast Offices (Video)

Any viewer joining Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo on a Red Sox broadcast knows that the former second baseman likes to have a fit of laughter every once and a while. They just might not expect to encounter one of the classic giggle fits during a call to customer service. During a stop on the NESN Tour this Wednesday, the RemDawg helped field customer support calls at Comcast offices...

Kevin Youkilis still has fond memories of his time in Boston

It’s no surprise on the day former Red Sox third/first baseman Kevin Youkilis reported to Yankees spring training the first words out of his mouth to the media were about the Red Sox. What may surprise you to know is that those words were spoken with high regard for his former organization. Youkilis spent 9 years with the Red Sox organization (2004-2012) and was a vital member...
