Found April 25, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
Jon Rauch has been outstanding for the Mets in the bullpen this year.  After getting credit for his team-leading third victory in the Mets’ 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins last night, Rauch has now pitched 9⅓ scoreless innings in ten appearances.  But the zero in the runs allowed column is just the beginning of the story. Rauch has faced a total of 32 batters over his first ten relief outings, retiring 28 of them.  The line against him (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) is so ridiculously low, you’d think there was a typo or three involved (.097/.125/.129).  But it’s true.  Jon Rauch has been that dominant. Prior to this season, Rauch was a good, but not great, reliever.  In 477 appearances, he had a 3.76 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.  But he was always good against the National League East.  In fact, his 3.50 ERA against the Mets was his highest against any NL East team.  But now he pitches for the Mets – not against them – and the NL East is about to discover just h...

Breaking News: Jason Bay Placed On DL, Mets Call Up Zach Lutz

The New York Mets today announced the team placed outfielder Jason Bay on the 15-Day Disabled List with a nondisplaced fracture of a rib on the left side and recalled infielder Zach Lutz from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League.  Bay, 33, is hitting .240 (12-50) with three home runs and five RBI in 15 games this season.  He underwent a MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery...

Bay Placed On DL, Lutz Recalled - Ike To Be Platooned?

It was announced earlier this afternoon that Jason Bay suffered a non-displaced fracture of his rib. Lutz, who was recalled from Buffalo can be used as a 3B or 1B. Chances of Lutz seeing the Hot Corner are slim, so makes one wonder if this means that Fearless Ike, after a dreadful start, might be put into a platoon situation with Lutz. Earlier this spring I wrote about the similarities of

Mets upend Marlins 2-1 behind awesome Johan outing

The Mets couldn’t be feeling too good about themselves as Johan Santana was leaving the game in the seventh inning. Despite pitching spectacularly, Santana was leaving the game with a 1-0 deficit. Part of the problem was the Mets not being able to score runs against the Miami Marlins ace Josh Johnson. The other part was a shoddy relay throw that allowed Giancarlo Stanton to score...

Pelfrey to get Tommy John surgery

Another pitcher has gotten bit by the Tommy John bug: Mets starter Mike Pelfrey, who was placed on the DL on Tuesday with a sore elbow. The news was shared by Mets manager Terry Collins today after the Mets' 3-2 win over the Marlins. With Pelfrey due to hit his final year of arbitration after this season, and likely to make at least $6 million, it's safe to assume that his...

Video: Pelfrey To Have Tommy John Surgery

(Video courtesy of SNY) Mike Pelfrey will undergo Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow, and miss the remainder of the season. His recovery and return could be anywhere between 12 and 18 months depending on how the elbow responds and any potential setbacks. Pelfrey does have youth on his side which could bode well for him. Pelfrey was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday...

Mets continue to hurt, place Pelfrey on DL

Earlier today, the Mets placed left fielder Jason Bay on the 15-day DL. The hits keep on coming, as the team has also placed starter Mike Pelfrey on the DL with swelling in his right elbow. Pelfrey really hasn't lived up to the high expectations placed on him by the New York media after being drafted ninth overall in the 2005 draft. That, of course, was the loaded draft that...

Mets Sign Brad Emaus and Fred Lewis To Minors Deals

The Mets just handed me a press release announcing that they have signed infielder Brad Emaus and outfielder Fred Lewis to minor league deals. Both will be assigned Triple-A Buffalo. Emaus gets his second tour of duty with the Mets, his first coming after being taken by the Amazin’s in the Rule V Draft 2010. He played 14 games and went 6-37 in his Met career before being returned...

The Enemy Looks Ridiculous

Well this just about brings it home, so to speak. Doesn't it? It promised to be an eventful day, but we just didn't know how eventful. We awoke to "Jose Reyes Day" with Jason Bay hitting the disabled list with a fractured rib which he accrued by flailing and missing a fly ball. This we sort of expected. But then we find out that Mike Pelfrey (the other boo twin...
