Found August 11, 2012 on NESN.com:
When Jonathan Papelbon signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Phillies in November, Philadelphia thought it was getting a shutdown reliever who would be able to close out a ton of victories. After all, the Phillies led all of baseball in wins in both 2010 and 2011, and, despite injuries to Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, there was reason to think they'd threaten to do so again in 2012. But so far, that hasn't been the case, as Papelbon's 25 saves and 2.93 ERA out of the bullpen haven't been able to prevent Philadelphia from slipping to 51-61, just...

Vance Worley Hopes to Rebound from Rough Outing in Finale Against the Cardinals as Jimmy Rollins Sits

Vance Worley's last start did not last long.  Battling some stomach issues, Worley lasted just 3 2/3 innings against Atlanta on Tuesday with less-than-stellar results.    Today, Worley looks to rebound and give the Phillies a series win.  He will have to do so without Jimmy Rollins, who is getting a day off. On the season, Worley is 6-7 with a 3.83 ERA. Worley will battle...

Lieberthal humbled to enter Wall of Fame

Before Chase Utley's heroics and Roy Halladay's dominant start, the Phillies held their annual Wall of Fame induction, adding longtime catcher Mike Lieberthal, who played for the Phillies from 1994 to 2006. Lieberthal entered the Wall of Fame as, statisically, the best catcher in Phillies' history with the most hits (1,128), home runs (149), and games caught (1,139...

Juan Pierre Walks Off in the 11th Inning

For the seventh time in their last nine wins at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia won in its final at-bat. Pierre, the 13-year veteran and ultimate team player, beat out an infield single that allowed the Phillies to walk off with an 8-7, 11-inning win against the Cardinals. It was the fifth win of the Phillies’ nine-game homestand, marking just their second winning homestand of...

Phillies 8, Cardinals 7(11)

Juan Pierre beat out a run-scoring infield single in the 11th inning, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to an 8-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Jimmy Rollins reached off Barret Browning (0-2) on a fielder's choice. He advanced to second base on a grounder and then stole third. Pierre hit one deep into the hole that shortstop Rafael Furcal made a great stab at...

Can the Phillies Really Compete In 2013?

For the Phillies to be competitive in 2013, players like Ryan Howard will need to return to the form they showed a couple of years ago. We’ve talked ad nauseam about the 2012 Phillies. What went wrong, who’s to blame and how to fix it have all been topics of much debate and coverage. Still there’s one question that remains unanswered – Can the Phillies compete in 2013? I...

The Team That Started It All: Phillies host Cardinals

Cliff Lee, who is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA in five career starts against the St. Louis Cardinals, starts the middle game of the Phillies' three-game series against the Cardinals. (Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso) This disaster of a season actually didn't start in 2012. It started on October 7, 2011, when the Phillies were on the wrong end of a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the St. Louis...

Phillies-Marlins Preview

Cole Hamels showed in his most recent outing why the Philadelphia Phillies decided to invest in him while dealing away others during a disappointing campaign. His performances against the Miami Marlins this season haven't gone nearly as well. The left-hander looks to help end Philadelphia's five-game losing streak to the Marlins in the opener of a three-game series Monday...

Chase Utley’s two-run shot gives the Phils the win over the World Champs as they defeat the Cardinals, 3-1.

Chase Utley’s two-run home run in the eighth inning helps lead the Phils over the World Champs as they down the Cards, 3-1. The Cards took a 1-0 lead in the second as Carlos Beltran hits a lead-off home run, his twenty-eighth home run of the year. The Phils would tie the game up at one-all in their half of the second as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Dom Brown hits...

Cardinals-Phillies Preview

(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals haven't visited Philadelphia since defeating Roy Halladay and the Phillies in Game 5 of last October's NL division series. While there doesn't figure to be nearly as much intrigue surrounding this weekend's three-game set, a matchup between Halladay and Kyle Lohse could make for a competitive series opener Friday night. While defending...
