MLB Injury News:
Apparently, Jordany Valdespin was not wearing a cup when Justin Verlander hit him. The Detroit Tigers' pitcher lost control of one of his pitches and it sailed inside to Valdespin. Verlander says he instantly knew where it was going to get Valdespin. Valdespin had not chance and was hit in the groin.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Valdespin's injury could have been so much worse. He was not wearing a cup at the time. Had he been, there may not have been as much of a problem. Valdespin may not have been writhing on the ground for as long, concerned about whether everything would still function after the ball hit him.
After the game, Mets' manager Terry Collins tore into Valdespin for not wearing a cup, says Puma. It would be a surprise to see Valdespin NOT wear a cup going forward. Getting hit by a pitch from Justin Verlander can do that to you.
Valdespin is expected to be fine. He tweeted out that everything worked properly last night and he was good to go.

I didn’t have to go too far back for this edition of MMO Flashback which was originally posted on January 30 of this year. But it’s relevancy makes it worth a second look considering it was written long before people started hopping back on the Jordany Valdespin bandwagon. Enjoy…
In 2012, Jordany Valdespin put his name in the Mets record book with one swing of the bat, crushing...
However surprising it might be to learn, New York Mets utility man Jordany Valdespin is changing his tune and making an adjustment to the customary equipment he wears on the field, telling reporters on Wednesday that he has every intention of wearing a protective cup while playing from this day forward.
Obviously, it is impossible to know exactly why Valdespin has changed his mind...
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jordany Valdespin probably thought he was going to have a great Spring Training game against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers when he led the game off with a home run. Little did Valdespin know that just a few innings later he would take a fastball right to the groin.
When asked by the New York Post exactly where the ball hit...
A lot was made of New York Mets utility man Jordany Valdespin being hit in the man region by a Justin Verlander fastball on Monday, but many people do not understand the severity of the situation. Fortunately, Valdespin’s health has checked out fine. The thing that made the situation so scary is that he was not wearing a protective cup.
“You would think if you are starting at...

Justin Verlander endured a rough spring training outing on Monday, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings of an 11-0 loss to the New York Mets. He still walked out of Joker Marchant Stadium feeling better than the Mets’ Jordany Valdespin.
With Verlander’s day winding down...
Yesterday Mets utility player Jordany Valdespin took a Justin Verlander 94-mph fastball directly to the dick, and if that weren’t bad enough, turns out Valdepsin wasn’t wearing a cup at the time, making him something akin to the village idiot on the Mets team. Today the New York Post skewered Valdespin and his unfortunate/unprotected nutshot with a simple, hilarious...
He ain't the man right now. Jordany Valdespin took a Justin Verlander fastball to the groin. And the dope wasn't wearing a cup.
Valdespin says he is OK ... Asked where he got hit: "My dick,"...

And now for your painful story of the day.On Monday, the New York Mets squared off against Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander. The game started out with a bang for the Mets as leadoff man Jordany Valdespin took Verlander deep to get New York on the board early.Apparently, his jog around the bases was a little too hotdoggish.Because a couple of at-bats later, Valdespin's trip...
Oh Jordany… So much baseball talent, so many bad decisions.
Let’s go through some of them: There was that time that he wore a white t-shirt to the ballpark instead of the standard, more formal dress code, and the other players ripped up his shirt and wrote “JV1″ on it (JV1 is what Valdespin calls himself). He was pretty upset, to say the least…
Then there was that time...
The Big Leagues And they say there’s no stakes in Spring Training.
Remember all the blogs that said Kate Upton and Justin Verlander had broken up because Miss Cleavage told some TV station that she was single? You didn’t see Busted Coverage falling for her ********. Look who watched Justin Verlander pitch today against the Mets.
Of course JV was roughed up, allowing five runs over 4 1/3 innings. You know, he was just working on his stuff.
Jonathon Niese knows he may get the ball on opening day if Johan Santana begins the season on the disabled list.
The young left-hander is not taking anything for granted, though.
Niese pitched one-hit ball for 4 2-3 innings, and the New York Mets roughed up Justin Verlander in an 11-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday.
Starting the opener at home on April 1 against the...
No Justin Verlander, no Clayton Kershaw, no David Price. No Mike Trout, no Buster Posey, no Prince Fielder, no Josh Hamilton. And still, Team USA might be good enough to win the World Baseball Classic.
Such an outcome might not be best for the future of the WBC, lulling American major leaguers into a false sense of complacency, enabling everyone to think, "Hey, we can win without...
If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – Spring Training stats are meaningless. There are several different reasons why this is true, none more so important than the fact that 50 PA or 10 IP is not enough to trump multiple seasons worth of results. Anyone who doubts that needs to look no further than the Blaine Boyer fiasco of a few years ago, when the...
