Oh Jordany… So much baseball talent, so many bad decisions. Let’s go through some of them: There was that time that he wore a white t-shirt to the ballpark instead of the standard, more formal dress code, and the other players ripped up his shirt and wrote “JV1″ on it (JV1 is what Valdespin calls himself). He was pretty upset, to say the least… Then there was that time that Valdespin tweeted a picture of himself wearing a Miami Marlins hat and that time he posted a shirtless picture of himself wearing a Phillies hat. Anyway, Valdespin has been having a great Spring Training, probably earning himself a spot on the Mets big league roster when he gets hit in the groin by a 94 MPH Justin Verlander fastball. According to The Star-Ledger, Valdespin has NEVER worn a cup in his life, but he plans on doing so now: “I’ve got to do it now,” Valdespin conceded this morning. “I’ll never forget. All positions I’ve got to use it. You never know, because the ball [can] give a bad hop and hit me again.” As you can tell from this picture from the Daily News, Valdespin was in a lot of pain:   Is it not a rule in Major League Baseball that all players must wear protective cups? If not, it really should be… And if it’s not, why wouldn’t every player wear one just in case? There are some things I’ll never understand. This is clearly one of them.

A cringeworthy disturbance in the Force that binds all men likely was detected on Monday when New York Mets utility player Jordany Valdespin was drilled in his nether-regions — his crotch, to the layperson — by a 94 mph pitch out of the hand of Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander during a spring training game between the clubs. Today the New York Post skewered Valdespin and his unfortunate/unprotected nutshot with a simple, hilarious...

Jordany Valdespin hit in the groin by Justin Verlander pitch

Apparently, Jordany Valdespin was not wearing a cup when Justin Verlander hit him.  The Detroit Tigers' pitcher lost control of one of his pitches and it sailed inside to Valdespin.  Verlander says he instantly knew where it was going to get Valdespin.  Valdespin had not chance and was hit in the groin. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Valdespin's injury...

Nieuwenhuis and Valdespin Battling For Outfield Spot

The Mets are holding conclave this spring as they seek out a center field replacement for the departed Andres Torres. He exudes confidence on the field, but crosses the line with...

Spring Training stats mean more than usual for the 2013 Mets

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – Spring Training stats are meaningless. There are several different reasons why this is true, none more so important than the fact that 50 PA or 10 IP is not enough to trump multiple seasons worth of results. Anyone who doubts that needs to look no further than the Blaine Boyer fiasco of a few years ago, when the...
