The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Jordy Mercer in the third round of the 2008 MLB draft. He signed right away, and got his career started in A-ball, with 216 at-bats between State College and Hickory in 2008. In that time he hit for a .250/.297/.366 line, with five homers, and a 47:13 K/BB ratio. In 2009 he moved up to Lynchburg, playing the entire season in high-A. Mercer hit for a .255/.314/
