Prince Fielder put on a show for fans of the Home Run Derby — if there are any left — on Tuesday night as he won the event for the second time and hit some absolute bombs in the process. Fielder hit the four longest homers of the night, two of which traveled an estimated 476 feet. In the final round, Fielder defeated Jose Bautista by a score of 12-7. Bautista was considered by many to be the favorite heading into the contest, but Fielder earned the victory by hitting some shots that probably just landed a few hours ago. Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista: “It’s like Ricky Bobby said: ‘If you’re not first, you’re last.’ That’s the way I look at things.” — Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) July 10, 2012 While this sounds like a hilarious reference to American comedy from a player born in the Dominican Republic, David Brown of Big League Stew — who asked Bastain about

Fielder's 476-foot HR lands in fountain

Check out the video. The Detroit Tigers’ Prince Fielder knocked a 476-footer right into the fountain during the Home Run Derby. It was his longest homer of the night. It was just one of Fielder’s 28 homers as he went on to beat Toronto’s Jose Bautista in the Home Run Derby finals.

Fielder, Tigers still looking dangerous

Prince Fielder took another massive swing and sent a drive to right that made Comerica Park look like a Little League field. The homer helped the Tigers finish a three-game sweep of Kansas City entering the All-Star break - and sent a reminder to the rest of the AL Central that there's a sleeping giant in Motown. After reaching the AL championship series last year, Detroit...

Screengrab Snafu: Brewer(?) Prince Fielder wins Home Run Derby

Monday night's Home Run Derby was quite the spectacle.  You had Kansas City fans booing Robby Cano without mercy, John Kruk eating ribs during a spectacular "interview" with George Brett, Pedro Gomez trying to read tweets, and of course the presence of one Chris Berman.  At times, it was easy to forget about the actual Home Run Derby, which was won by Prince...

Rant of the day: Poor sports in Kansas City

Hope everyone caught the Home Run Derby last night - congrats to Prince Fielder for winning it for a second time - that dude is a beast! As a sports fan who can't help but become embroiled in bitter sports rivalries (how excited was this fangirl that the New York Yankees took 3 of 4 games from the Red Sox this past weekend??), it's always nice to see, at something like the...

Then and now: How the Tigers are hanging in 2012

Detroit -- There were great expectations for the Detroit Tigers coming into the 2012 season after they signed Prince Fielder, one of the top free agents on the market. Virtually every baseball expert picked the Tigers to repeat as Central Division champions. But, as the old saying goes, the games are not played on paper. It became clear from the second game of the season that...

Daily Friar 7.10.12

Normally I know what I am going to write about before I sit down and put the words down on the computer. During the All-Star break that is a little hard to do. I normally will make some comments about last night's game, or a potential trade in the works and rumors surrounding it. However, during the break that isn't the case. Prince Fielder won the home run derby last night...
