This is not how you get in good with your teammates, Jose Fernandez. During a simulated spring training game Fernandez, Miami’s top pitching prospect, let fly a 95 mph fastball that dinged Giancarlo Stanton, perhaps the only reason to watch the Marlins this year, right in the head. Stanton appears to be OK after the scary incident, which Fernandez is blaming on his profuse sweating. Said the artist formerly known as Mike Stanton… It has happened before and there will be another time,” Stanton said. “It hit me first and then the helmet decided to come in after the impact.” He said the ball made impact “right on the bottom of the head, high neck area. “I wasn’t dizzy or nothing. I saw a little grayness, fuzziness on the outside of my eyes. But it’s subsiding now,” Stanton said. “Obviously he didn’t meant to. Why would he? No big deal.” Fernandez was shaken up by the incident too, and after pitching to one more batter, headed to the clubhouse to track Stanton down and apologize…profusely I assume. He should consider himself lucky not only that Stanton wasn’t hurt, but that he didn’t get severely reprimanded by owner Jeffrey Loria for beaning the Marlin’s only marketable player, but that would mean that Loria actually cares about this team, and we all know that’s definitely not the case.
