Found March 31, 2013 on Fox Sports Florida:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Top pitching prospect Jose Fernandez has been added to the Miami Marlins' roster and is scheduled make his major-league debut next Sunday against the Mets in New York. The move Sunday was necessitated because of injuries to right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez. Both had been expected to be part of the rotation, but instead they'll start the season on the disabled list. The 20-year-old Fernandez was the Marlins' first-round draft pick in 2011. Miami also added right-handers John Maine and Alex Sanabia to the roster. Sanabia will join the rotation. Ricky Nolasco will start the Marlins' opener Monday at Washington. Right-hander Kevin Slowey is scheduled to start the second game of the series and left-hander Wade LeBlanc will start the finale.

In a stunning move, the Miami Marlins promoted highly touted pitching prospect Jose Fernandez to the Major Leagues on Sunday.   Final roster decisions were due to Major League Baseball this afternoon and the Marlins made a number of transactions including this one.   The need for Fernandez came about due to sudden injuries to Nate Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez.  Both are expected...

Marlins spring training review

Things get real very real for the Miami Marlins on Monday. Not only will Mike Redmond make his big-league managerial debut, the Marlins will open against talented right-hander Stephen Strasburg and the defending NL East champion Washington Nationals. Miamis Ricky Nolasco will oppose Strasburg at Nationals Park as the Marlins begin their 21st season at 1:05 p.m. ET. I'm excited...

Logan Morrison starts the year on the 60-day DL

The outspoken and exuberant young Marlins' outfielder, Logan Morrison, will start the season on the 60-day disabled list.  As teams finalized their 25-man rosters over the weekend, Morrison was placed on the DL thanks to surgery he underwent in September of last year. According to Joe Frisaro of, Morrison's right knee has taken longer to recovery from surgery...

Marlins mistakes prove costly on Opening Day

The Miami Marlins could have safely assumed two things heading into their Opening Day game against Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals.1. Theyd probably need a well-pitched game from Ricky Nolasco and the relievers.2. Theyd likely need to make the most of any scoring opportunities against one of baseballs best pitchers.Nolasco certainly did his part, allowing just three...

2013 Season Preview

It’s easy to write the Miami Marlins off and most media outlets are doing just that.   The team traded off a good portion of the roster and looks vastly different than it did one year ago on Opening Day.  It’s gotten younger, and it’s gotten cheaper but the truth it — it’s also gotten better.   That’s going to be something you don’t read or hear much right now however...

Videos: Bryce Harpers homers twice on Opening Day

If you were one of those folks that predicted that the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper would hit the sophomore wall, here is your bitter first taste of just how good this kid be. Harper homered twice on Monday against the Miami Marlins in his first two at-bats. It’s the bottom of the sixth at post time, so don’t be surprised if a third video is added to this collection before...

Phillies Trade Infielder Freddy Galvis To Miami Marlins For Utility Player Greg Dobbs

Photo: Philliedelphia/Frank Klose In a move to shore up the Phillies bench, the Phillies sent utility infielder Freddy Galvis to the Miami Marlins for utility infielder Greg Dobbs, according to various media outlets. The move gives the Phillies a veteran left-handed bench presence with some power. Galvis was expendable because...

National Deficit

Ricky Nolasco pitched great outside of two pitches to Bryce Harper but that was enough as the Miami Marlins fell to the Washington Nationals 2-0 on Opening Day in Washington D.C..  The first of the longballs came in the first inning on a hanging curveball and the Nationals never looked back.   Stephen Strasburg and the Nats bullpen quieted Miami’s offense and kept them from even...

Legends don’t just homer on Opening Day; they homer twice

When I saw that Ricky Nolasco was named the Marlins’ Opening Day starting pitcher, immediately a light went on that I was probably going to see a Bryce Harper home run in his first Opening Day game. As he usually does, he did one better. He hit two, with the second being a towering shot to right field. In case you were in your cubicle this afternoon went Bryce Harper gave the Nationals...

Nats Open At Home Against Marlins, Facing High Expectations

The Washington Nationals will open their highly anticipated 2013 campaign today at Nationals Park against the Miami Marlins, a team which is on the opposite end of the prognosticated success spectrum from the Nats. When Sports Illustrated elected the Nationals as its World Series victor, and nearly every other set of predictions has the Nats going nearly as far, it became expected...

MMO 2013 National League East Preview

NL East At A Glance Miami Marlins: The team that essentially alienated whatever fan base they thought they had looks like an obvious 5th place team in this division. They do however have the best player in the division in Giancarlo Stanton. No matter what the rumors say, I still think Giancarlo is a Marlin for a very long time. If I’m wrong, I hope I’m apologizing on my way to...
